Agreed. 50% privatization will be good for Pakistan railways and PIA, but 100% will affect the national security matrix.

It's in Pakistan interest if they let go Kashmir issue for some 10 years, develop itself economically strong. Become strong enough to fight India back both economically and strategically at international level. Being a nuclear power Pakistan will have more influence than Turkey in world politics if it prosper economically. Being a proclaimed nuclear power, It can become leader of muslim countries leaving Saudis far behind.
Don't understand why Pakistani leader are so much short sighted.

a.) Railways cant be run properly if the right software is in place - hardware is fine. Software (i.e. the management) is lacking.....however Railways is now a profitable entity, there have been some much needed reforms

b.) PIA - same logic applies. But it should be 100% PRIVATIZED. Fire non-essential staff (a huge number!)

c.) On Karachi (or Gwadar) Ports - Dubai should have nothing to do with it. Major conflict of interest.

My logic is this, Pakistani Political Parties are too weak to do what is right to correct PIA,PR, Steel Mills, Gwadar (I researched Dubai Ports, but understand it's mostly run by foreigners).

Pakistani Politial Parties are, somewhat, going to be held responsible for the mass firings of PIA, PR, and Steel Mills workers. Allow a foreigner, who has the experience and expertise to run these industries run them for ~20-30 years, in which enough time is spent to overhaul the culture.

Case Study: Oman.

In my view its lack of planning, railway and PIA are beyond fix and reason being the hardware.

Even with only 1% stake of PIA or PR, Pakistan can still Nationalize Strategic Assets in case of war.

PIA needs to work closely with Turkish Airlines and NO other. Their business model is a success story. Now a world class airline (which i have flown many times back and forth between Turkiye and Pakistan). Fantastic service, professional staff.

Kashmir issue is not one that is draining our economy. Troop presence is expensive but most of our resources are devoted towards the western sector at this time. Of course with indias provocations we have maintained a credible presence along the LoC to keep the indians in check. It costs money but then again the military has income streams that come about through army-run enterprises (which do pay taxes and CONTRIBUTE towards the national exchequer)

I have written extensively on the subject by the way and will be happy to provide you with figures.

The Kashmiri freedom struggle is one that simply will never be left alone till it is resolved. Be assured on that. The government may be short-sighted in other ways (we all know that) but there is a broad consensus that Kashmir is a national political issue and nobody will be "wishing it away" because to do so would be analogous to treason. And the Kashmiris themselves as well as the OIC and nation-states (like Turkiye) have been highly appreciative of our role in bringing to light their narrative.

only the jingoists do that....nuclear weapons are merely a deterrent but nothing to do with economic development or reforms

it will take a decade just to accomplish a), b) and c) upto a satisfactory level. Because It takes atleast 3-5 years to implement a policy and the results come in next five years, and in the end of decade you can see how far the things have gone good.

If just a) b) and c) are satisfactory then it means nation is doing fine.. but unfortunately that is the only toughest task to do, as this is one of the back bones of economy. So it is just not a) b) and c) but this means Naya Pakistan

Even Somalia has lot's of potential, and many other countries in Asia have good potential, but the point is about management, how you exploit the potential. India is the largest producer of coal, but that doesn't make us energy rich till now.

In 60's Pakistan had just began it's frankness to the west and in 80's it enjoyed extremely cordial relations. With lots of tourism and inter-cultural. But it 90's things started to deteriorate.
