What's new

RIP Windows 10? Windows 11 could be unveiled by Microsoft in a few weeks

Windows has been under performing for me. Difficult to use, not easy enough to use, lack of convenient features, freezes up a lot. Which is why I'm a Linux user.

The only Unix operating system worth using is MacOS .. the rest are all crap ...

A Macbook Pro laptop with MacOS is truly the best computing experience there is .. truly. Expensive yes, but so well put together it is worth it.

I have a 2014 Macbook Pro 15" laptop on which i type this - as fast and elegant as the day i got the laptop and not an issue since. When this one goes - i will get snother one - as much as i hate the idea of paying 2k GBP for a laptop ...

This is good news!

I can't wait to see the UI design.

It seems the current trend is still a flat style but with rounded edges.

They need to fix Windows Update thingy. That is such a pain in the back.

I have a MacBook Pro too which like you I'm using now. They really are dependable machines. Really great. You need to do something quick the Mac laptop is hands down the best one to flip open first. The debate isn't even close.

But for work I turn to my left and use my Windows 10 laptop.

I hear you on forking over the dough for a new one. Trying to squeeze this current one to its last breath...

I use Alienware M15 . Used MacBook pro in college. Mac is good for college/school but you always get the feeling ur stuck or can’t utilize the entire OS. Windows you get the feeling of openness and more suited for bigger projects

Hmm...next time I should consider stepping up to that.
One of the things about my MacBook Pro is it doesn't feel fragile. It's light yet I toss it around not worried about breaking something. It takes abuse like a champ.

I throw mine like a boomerang on the bed. I have the 2016 slim one. Not much use specially when there are only USB-C and old headphone jack. Can’t even plug new iPhone headphones to it

LOL MS promised W10 was going to be their final OS. Same for O365. They have changed their entire business model to accommodate both products. We knew this promise was going to be broken. I work in the IT sector and let me tell you folks that W10 has been no different than W7 or any other predecessor. In fact, Windows updates breaks more things than fixing flaws.

I switched to Mac cause everything gets connected and shared between my iOS devices, and for my business it runs much smoother than Windows always has some sort of issue.

The explosive growth seen by Microsoft's Windows 11 operating system over the past few months is beginning to slow, new figures suggest.

The latest report from AdDuplex shows that Windows 11 user numbers are levelling out, perhaps suggesting Microsoft needs to up its game with some new updates or additions to the platform soon.

For the month of March 2022, Windows 11 took just 0.1% market share from other editions of Microsoft's software, accounting for 19.4% of the overall usage, with a further 0.6% using a Windows 11 Insider build.

Windows 11 upgrade

The numbers show that, despite Microsoft's push to get users to upgrade to Windows 11, its previous edition is still holding strong for many consumers.

Of the 80% using Windows 10, the larger proportion were found to be using the two most recent update families. Windows 10 N21U (21H2), released in November 2021, had 28.5% of the overall market, with its slightly older sibling, Windows 10 M21U (21H1), released in March 2021, taking 26.5% of the share.

The remaining 25% was made up of various older builds dating back to 2018, indicating that Microsoft does still have some work to do in order to get a large number of users upgraded to its latest editions.

AdDuplex takes its figures from 5,000 Windows Store apps, so may not be entirely representative of the true market share, but the figures do appear to corroborate recent findings from Microsoft itself.

The company recently shared that 1.4 billion devices are running both Windows 10 and Windows 11, although it didn't reveal specific numbers for either build.

This has posed a problem for some business users however, as recent research found that as many as a third of work laptops or PCs don't meet the minimum requirements to run Windows 11, with the lack of TPM 2.0 the main culprit.

The report from Riverbed added 19.45% of devices will need a storage upgrade, 11% will need to be upgraded to TPM 2.0 and 8% will need to be upgraded with UEFI - with 12% of work PCs needing to be replaced entirely.

Well give us all a reason to risk an upgrade install.

The UI, ease of access, speed (yes I noticed that), and better drivers such as an automatic Bluetooth re-connect after a restart (which was not the case in windows 10) are all good reasons.

Not to mention, going forward is the only way, as sometime in 1-3 years the end of life support will be announced for windows 10

I installed it, than after first 5 minutes couldn't BEAR it whatsoever.
Rolled back to Windows 10 and never looked back at Win 11.
Its worst OS for productivity. Yes if you're 8 year old than that will suit you.

Windows 10 offers better interface, security and compatibility options than Windows 7 - Windows 7 will not cut it anymore.

Windows 10 update option is simplified - 21H2 feature update is now directly offered on an older copy after fresh install.

I recommend Professional version for use in IT sector (original copy of-course).

I know the switchover will eventually happen for me, but right now, I'm extremely happy with Windows 10.
