Maybe recent migrants but France has traditionally been home to many North Africans. The problems were obvious if you went to Paris 10-15 years ago. You would have seen large pockets of muslims, usually North Africans, often poorer than other Parisians, staying within their own communities and not really being integrated.

A truck has crashed into a crowd gathered for France’s Bastille Day fireworks on the seafront of the southern city of Nice, French media have reported.

The local police prefect of Alpes-Maritimes warned of an attack and asked Nice residents to stay indoors, France Info radio reported.

“People are running, it’s panic,” a local newspaper journalist from Nice-Matin was reported saying. “There is blood, no doubt injuries.”

There are reported to have been several deaths.

Regional head Christian Estrosi tweeted that a “truck-driver appeared to have killed dozens of people”. He told Nice residents: “Stay at home”.
