No need to go into that. But, just for the sake of argument, in my own world, I am the best piece of human specimen ever produced. I do not need to prove it to anybody else, and if it is otherwise, I will probably die rotting in some gutter somewhere, some day - but that does not mean that I should accept the fabricated notion that all men are my equal. Laughability is relative. I myself can harldly contain myself from a little bout of ROFLing each time I hear that "all men are equal" - and now that they have added women to the mix as well (great going huh!).

And with regards to your question - short and "sweet" answer is - everything.

The old Socialist cr@p which "intellectuals" embrace with such fervor because they can, when the day is worn through, apply it on their bruised consciences - a bit like a dishonest trader making regular visits to temple. And so they play the games needed in a dog eat dog through certain assurance that given a chance they would have bridged the distance between themselves and those not so fortunate, but the travails of daily living pull them away from the ideal. This is how they can feel superior to those people and those times who take inequality as a natural, God given reality. This is notwithstanding that the earlier, unjust times, were reletively more fair and equal.

So while both sets accept the implicit reality and the inevitability of their own actions, the "intellectuals" feel superior about themselves for having "conscience" which the others do not display.
