I don't know, the way I view autoloaders and automation in tanks, it's like comparing a revolver to a glock. In the end automation wins. This is why the Japanese, Koreans, Turks, French, Germans are all switching to autoloaders.

Autoloaders have a lot of disadvantages. 1 less crewman to service the tank (The actual hard thing to do), operate the communication equipment, operate some secondary armament.

Autoloaders are also generally slower.


The difference is Kamikaze planes have a lot more mass to do damage with and their target is much larger and harder to miss.

Hitting a suicide drone will at the very least make it miss the target.

They're great in mostly uncontested airspace or against limited or obsolete air defense systems, but not against a layered, saturated, modern air defense network. Ukraine was the ultimate proving ground. Russians claim to have shot down 90 TB2s. We know Ukraine purchased around 50 atleast and they haven't been doing anything lately. Even Zelensky stated that the TB2s had not performed as expected and had very limited success. They have a place on the battlefield but they are not the be all or end all of modern warfare.

No weapons system is invincible and no army is unbeatable either. The Saudis lost so many Abrams that they stopped using them in Yemen. Turkey deployed Leopard 2 tanks against ISIS in Syria and lost quite a few in devastating fashion. Even Merkavas were destroyed against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. Tanks even with APS will be susceptible against mines, IEDs, drones and modern ATGMs. If the ATGM squads get a direct hit on where the ammo is stored, it's basically game over for the crew.

You know what's funny ? During the Yom Kippur war, an Israel officer said the exact same thing "The era of tanks is coming to an end" This is after Israel initially sustained huge losses against Egyptian ATGM teams who had been supplied and trained by the Soviets. However you know what happened, they figured out how to deal with the threat and adapted. Tanks still provide protection, mobile firepower on the move and as we've seen in Ukraine, artillery coordinated with basic drones can completely wipe the floor with ATGM and ambush squads. Anyways this video explains this point very well.

Even in Libya Turkey lost 20x TB2s. This has been documented with picture, video evidence. That was just against Pantsirs which were operated by Libyan rebels. Russia has arguably the best air defense network in the world. What do you expect ?
