What's new

RFP issued for 5 Self Propelled Ships.

Lewis is a main cargo and replishment vessel.. I doubt it can carry tanks and troops... @arp2041 whats ur take on it??

The tender is for fleet support. So that would mean ammo/food and rest of the stuff for the CBG. The tank and troops will be for LPDs. I think, that's a separate tender.

So something like repair, replishenment and maintainance?
If its like that, Lewis class ships will be perfect

Yes, somthing like this. A ship that can transport stores, support naval operation, replenish other naval vessels etc

I'm quite fond of the BRAVE CLASS from DCNS:

There are TWO separate tenders buddy- one for 6 LHD/LPD, one for 5 FSS. There is a clear distinction of the two types of vessel the IN is after.

The brave class is yet to be built right? How soon will be receiving it? That will be another problem

Another addition to our mighty IN. way to go IN.

It is yet to be ordered so, yes, it is yet to be built. DCNS is a shipbuilding powerhouse though so I have confidency they'll get the job done in a timely manner.

Well, NO, if Indian Navy ask them to be built in our shipyards. But a big yes, if all the 5 ships were built in France. Anyway it will take 3 years to finalise. Long time....

Brave Class seems a decent choice but its 10K tons smaller. If DCNS can make it larger, this should be a good addition.

I'm pretty sure the IN would stipulate something along the lines of x number built abroad x number built in India as is the case with the IN's LHD/LPD tender,

Another option is Lewis and Clark Class. This is much closer to RFP issued but comes from USA.
