"Restrictions have been imposed in seven areas of Khanyar, Nowhatta, Rainwari, M.R. Gunj, Maisuma, Kralkhud and Safa Kadal in order to maintain law and order," a senior police officer told IANS.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chairman of the moderate Hurriyat group, has been placed under house arrest.
Heavy deployment of paramilitary forces, CRPF and police has been ensured in the areas that see waving of Pakistan flags by youth groups on August 14 every year.
Top sources here told IANS that the union home ministry had sent a letter to the state government stressing anti-national activities to be dealt firmly.
