No patriotic Pakistani opposes the Pakistan Armed Forces. But every patriotic Pakistani who has been bestowed the gift of intellect by Allah the Almighty must hold the combined civil-military leadership responsible for the joke they have turned us into. And this is because these leaders are people of low intellect who are unable to correctly layout the strategic course for the country, of navigate the charted course through choppy waters. They whole lot of them need a smart kick in the shins so they get their act together.
The current peace in Pakistan has been achieved through slavery. There are only two logical courses that we could take from here. Either the chaos surrounding us catches up to us because of the last bits of independence we show, or we become complete slaves. If we aspire to hold on to whatever independence we have left, then necessarily our leadership needs critical feedback. If we aspire for the latter, let me give you a glimpse of what awaits our children and future generations.
A colleague here in Sydney once told me that her grandfather is an Allawite Muslim in Turkey who observes fasting. Her own father is an Aetheist, and she is herself irreligious married to a Christian revert. She freely drinks alcohol and eats pork, and she told me to my face that she hates religion.
On the train, I overheard a group of teenagers talking about the love life of one of the girls. Apparently, her first kiss had been with her own biological father. When her group expressed disgust at this, she defended it saying "Atleast it wasn't with some random guy off the street". They still contested the ethics of it, and she said "You don't know Turkish parents, you have no idea what they are like". She told them her father had offered to show her what people do in high school but she turned down the offer and has blocked him on social media.
Again on the train, I found myself conversing with a lady who asked me where I am from. Her face, her attire, her demeanor, nothing reflected even a hint of an Islamic background, or Pakistani heritage. When I told her I am from Pakistan, she told me her own grandfather was also from Pakistan. She didn't use the word grandfather/grandpa to refer to him in the conversation, rather, used his first name casually, with none of the usual respect we show when talking about our own grandparents.
I will continue to criticize in the hope we will choose the first path. But my sense tells me we are quite committed to the second path. If Khan and Bajwa can have their way, the future of Pakistan is like Vietnam and Thailand. Servile nations benefitting from the generosity of Western masters but unable to stand on their own feet.
