Pakistan’s water storage capacity very low: ICCI

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Wednesday said at present, the storage capacity of the country was only 13 percent of the annual water flows from rivers while US has developed a 497 percent storage capacity from the annual flow from rivers.

President ICCI, Mohammad Ijaz Abbasi said Pakistan would be a water deficient country by 2012 if the water storage capacity were not enhanced.

He said due to lack of proper water management, particularly in rural areas a big chunk of rural population was migrating to urban areas in search of better career prospects.

Such migration was not only putting extra burden on already scarce urban amenities, but it was also creating several social problems and disturbing law and order situation, he added. He stressed upon the government to adopt modern water management techniques, particularly in rural areas to develop agriculture on modern lines and to enhance the productivity of agriculture products in the country. staff report

Hi,

Majority of the pakistanis have been fooled into believing that issues of national and strategic interests need to have a consensus----a nation whose majority is illeterate----a people who cannot see farther than the end of their noses----how can they pass a judgement for the welfare and being of the nation, when their primary objective s me myself and I---.

Today, the world is facing a shortage of water---the lakes are drying up, the river beds are becoing dust bowls----there are heavy monsoon rains but no catchment areas to store the water---it is true that sindh will become a desert maybe in the next 20 to 30 years----building the dams would delay the inevitable by another 20 or 30 years and that will give give the nation to come up with other planning.

As most of you guys know that I am in the retail car business---today I am going to tell you how the dinosaurs became extinct---you may ask me how and I will tell you that it is happening right in front of my eyes----it didnot take hundreds and millions of years for them to disappear----as a matter of fact---it happened instantaneously----within months and years---they were gone----.

Check out the U S auto industry today----it has taken less than six months----the big trucks and big SUV's----the dinosaurs of the industry are disappearing at a maximus speed----big truck makers have stopped the production lines of their big sellers----car lots are full and there are no takers----when the end comes---it comes at a lightening speed, with a thunderous roar and a deafening sound----.

It really is so funny at times to see pakistanis talking on the tv and coming up with these ideas from wheresoever about not building water reservoirs and dams----to them times means of no essence---there is no urgency and desire to speed up the issue---it has been now 30 plus years and no big dams in the picture----I guess they have been damned.
