President Ma Ying-jeou attends the official ceremony in Tainan
to mark the delivery of the aircraft on Friday.

The Republic of China Army demonstrated the capabilities of its six newly acquired AH-64E Apache attack helicopters Friday at an official ceremony in southern Taiwan to mark the United States' delivery of the aircraft.

During the demonstration, the US-made helicopters were flown at low altitude, made to hover, and put through shift turns.

The ceremony was attended by the president, Ma Ying-jeou, defense minister, Yen Min,g and other high-ranking government officials, as well as Christopher Marut, director of the American Institute in Taiwan's Taipei Office.

The aircraft is the world's top attack helicopter and will bolster the country's combat capabilities, Ma said.

The president also touted the close security cooperation between Taiwan and the US and thanked the US for its assistance in the procurement process and its training of Taiwan military personnel.

Equipped with AN/APG-78 Longbow Fire Control Radar, the US-made helicopter is good for both land and sea-based operations.

The six helicopters, which arrived in Taiwan in early November, are part of a 30-helicopter package purchased by Taiwan at cost of more than US$2 billion.

The procurement of the aircraft will greatly improve the Taiwanese military's mobility and firepower, according to the defense ministry.

The model E is the latest in the Apache attack helicopter series.

The second batch of Apaches is scheduled to be delivered to Taiwan early next year, and the last batch by the end of 2014, a military spokesperson said.

WZ-10 is superior to Apache. Apache is a really old helicopter.

AH-64E is better than WZ-10, but TaiWan only has 30 PLA can produce more than hundreds.

WZ-10 == AH-1Z, China has other heavy armed helicopter project developing like AH-64 and Mi-28.

stick to the topic buddy.

Sticking to topic makes sense, he is a new member so carried away, BD has no money and perhaps their best bet would be on Z-9W [attack variant] it is cheaper yet a good gunship has plenty of firepower or the next stop would be the Z-19 or whatever model which can be installed with autocannon but the price tag is around $25m.

It is a potent system for any army but what difference it make for Taiwan if they have to face China, these will be shoot down like duck by coastal long range Chinese air defense which cover most of Taiwan air space.

True. Taiwan will never be able to stop China from invade Taiwan. Taiwan can only plan to make it very costly. China would lose if it have to kill more than 10 people if it invade Taiwan. Their best result would be peaceful unification. But this can only happen when China is more developed and maybe even more democratic.

AH-1Z would have been a better choice for Taiwan, considering Taiwan already operates AH-1W. Apaches are big and very costly to maintain, not suitable for a small country like Taiwan.

This is what I don't get, ROC got thos AH-64 for its anti tank landing operation, but if PLA is able to land tank on the shore of ROC, that means they already have the control of air. Then what is the chance of those AH-64 actually have to actually survive in the first place.

Those Apaches are sitting ducks when Taiwan face PRC. Too less to be counted.

actually, they prevailed PRC over half a century now..and we're hearing the same kind of messages time and again form PRC.its nothing new.

now lets face the reality..

Taiwan has decent air defence,a capable airforce and a good navy.crossing a strait is always a worst idea, especially when your opposing force is a capable one,and I'm just deducting any external support.its easy to cheer in a forum like PDF,it is exactly opposite to face the challenge.if you study the USA's various overseas operation, not to mention one which includes a amphibious landing,it is always one of the toughest.and to occupy a country,no matter how small it is,always tough.just wonder to occupy a country across sea, which needs you to secure not only air,but also sea,via which you've to transport few hundred thousands of soldiers, hundreds of tanks, cars, logistics, armaments etc etc.hell,it'll dwarf the D-Day.

Who said PRC will try to occupy taiwan? You just think too much.

Now the relationship of both sides across the strait is just fine.
