nothing new here, what else can be expected from ill equipment & untrained police....

.
Police is of no use, and sadly, PML-N is not interested in modernizing police even after ruling punjab for 26 years. All they can do at max is few Model Police stations for photo session.

.
How do you expect police officer to behave with sect. mob, fully charged with religious sentiments?

I would say much better approach, rather than getting hanged shamefully by re-instated judiciary as a result of single civilian death, any adventurism by police may have easily earned them blames and fatwas, and all ruling political parties are waiting for incidences like these to profit.

In addition, death sentence of ranger personal was a big lesson for security agencies. It also tells the re-instatement of judiciary was part of a larger plan.

.
This is due to Our Supreme court, that is controlling the government... Moral of police is very down... They don't want to face courts... Even if they do air firing, then still people will blame them for unrest. We should lift up the Moral of police.... Few officers are culprit ...

We need complete reforms for the police not just in training but also in organisation. It should be more so like the military and free of political controls, not accountability.

.
No one respect police, and there was an attempt on media and public media to malign Pak army, re-instated judiciary has made the biggest dent.
Judiciary on record has many statements, disrespecting armed forces,,,, we all know how much general Pasha was humiliated in Hussain Haqqani case, where judiciary even ordered protocol of President in hate.
In the end heart broken man left the country.

Pindi tragedy an administrative failure: PUC

Mobarik A. Virk Monday, November 18, 2013
From Print Edition

Islamabad

Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, has squarely held the Rawalpindi administration and the Punjab government responsible for the unfortunate incident of sectarian violence on the day of Ashura (Friday, Nov 15) in Rawalpindi, resulting in deaths of at least 10 persons and injuries to over 50 in addition to the loot and arson spewing out of it.

While talking to ‘The News’, Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi, who also is a Member of the Council of Islamic Ideology, said that the government responded swiftly, only after the damaged was done, by calling out the Army and the Rangers and curfew was clamped down on Rawalpindi, which is still in place till filing of this report on Sunday, the third day of the incident.

“In a high-level meeting with the chief minister of the Punjab, I raised this point that the Ashura is falling on Friday and some very strict and extraordinary security and safety measures were needed to be in place to prevent any untoward incident.

“I also repeatedly appealed to the Ulema and Mashaikh belonging to all schools of thought to show tolerance and acceptance and create an atmosphere of harmony and understanding to have a peaceful Ashura. But the enemies of Muslim ummah and the enemies of Islam succeeded to strike only because of slackness on part of the administration,” Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi said.

“Instead of taking solid preventive measures the Rawalpindi administration thought it easier to hide behind the Pakistan Army once the violence was triggered and the things went completely out of their control,”
Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi, who also is a Member of the Council of Islamic Ideology, said.

He added that the incident is not a small one and could lead to drastic consequences country wide.

“To prevent the flames of sectarianism and hatred flare up any further all of us need to make every effort to calm down the emotions, which indeed are running very high at this point in time. And in this direction the Ulema and Mashaikh belonging to all schools of thought have a key role to play. On the other hand the government must appoint a judicial commission to probe the whole incident on urgent basis and those found guilty and responsible for the unfortunate incident should be taken to task without any delay,” the PUC chairman said.

He once again appealed to the whole nation to show restraint and not get swayed by any kind of adverse instigation or incitement to resort to violence. He bitterly criticized the Rawalpindi administration and the Punjab government but asked the people to remain peaceful and on the other hand urged the Ulema and Mashaikh belonging to all schools of thought to avoid issuing any controversial and inflammatory statements.

Rashid sees weak security behind Pindi clashes

November 17, 2013
Israr Ahmad

RAWALPINDI - President APML Sheikh Rashid has said the bloody sectarian clashes in Rawalpindi were mainly due to the feeble security arrangements made by the district administration and the provincial government.

“The government should request the judge of high court to probe the bloodshed. The fire of sectarianism should be put off at the earlier stage or else it would grip the whole country,” cautioned Rashid, MNA from NA-55, while holding a press conference at Lal Haveli here on Saturday.

He said that he has been trying to contact the district administration to review the security situation but no officer could be reached.

He said that he held talks with Daral Aloom Taleem-ul-Quran head Maulana Muhammad Ashraf and Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqa Jafriya (TNFJ) Chief Allama Hamid Mosavi and discussed the situation.

Commenting on the torching Madina Market by the charged mob, Sheikh said that those who fired the markets and the attackers were outsiders as he recognized the local people very well. “These anti-social elements were not locals,” he said.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif should not treat Rawalpindi as step son rather consider it his own city and take steps to maintain law and order situation in the city,”
Sheikh Raheed said.

He said that he would make efforts to hold a talk between Ulema of all schools of thought to normalize the situation.

Responding to a query, the AML President said that this should be inquired as from where the attackers carried petrol which they sprinkled on the markets and mosque and why they were not checked by the law enforcement agencies.

JI chief lashes out at govt, agencies over Pindi clashes

Munawar-Hassan-220x238.jpg

LAHORE - Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Syed Munawar Hasan on Sunday said that the Rawalpindi incident was an evidence of the government’s failure to claim fool proof security on Ashura.

Addressing a meeting of the heads of JI’s sister bodies at Mansoora, Munawar said the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi had turned into centers of CIA, Black Water and RAW due to which the whole country was on the tip of volcano which could erupt any moment.

He stressed upon the government not to blindly believe in the ‘all ok’ reports of the agencies. He said the government always claimed of having made fool proof security arrangements on Ashura, and thousands of police, Rangers and security personnel were deputed for the purpose. Yet, the saboteurs and miscreants managed to strike somewhere and shed the blood of innocent people which was a question mark on the efficiency of these institutions.

The JI chief also appealed to the religious and political parties and ulema to realise the gravity of the situation and make every effort to create mutual harmony and national unity.

He said that the rulers were bent upon selling out more than three dozen national institutions to their kith and kin on throw away prices but the nation would not allow that. JI chief said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership had made promises to the nation to build the national economy and improve the lot of the masses, but no concrete effort had been made in this direction during the last five months. Instead of checking corruption in the institutions, the government was eager to privatise major institutions which created discomfort and disappointment among the workers for the fear of unemployment. However, he said, if the government tried to deprive the workers of their jobs through sale of institutions, they would come on roads in protest.

What is the performance of politicians? If politicians were sincere they would have demanded resignation of interior minister, not police officers.
If you have to punish police officers, than punish those who do not work in regular time. e.g. Arsalan Iftikhar...
Idiot politicians think police officer's function is to stand guard, to armed and charged people.
Neither punishments are going to change any thing, until police is made an independent institution and with authority written on piece of paper, endorsed by an independent judiciary.
All political parties (incl. judiciary), are wasting nation's time, throw them out, kick them out, throw shoes, eggs and tomatoes at them, when ever you see one.

I'm glad security personals didn't touch any criminals otherwise it would have been a mess beyond the handling capacity.

Munawar Hussain should be any way house arrested, until his last day.

.
Police is badly demoralized by Judiciary . Like Musharraf said in his last speech before imposing Emergency. Police really need free hand, judiciary need respect and stop harassing police.
