Iran has tried to hide evidence in its secret military facility inParchin just days before signing the nuclear deal, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing US intelligence community officials. The information is based on confidential satellite footage seen by the officials.
The footages dates back to July. It shows bulldozers and heavy machinery being moved in Parchin. According to the Bloomberg report, the American intelligence estimates that there was an attempt made by the Iranian government to clean up the site before the planned visit of IAEAinspectors.
At the end of last week, the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence briefed Congress members and Senators on the findings.
“I think it’s up to the administration to draw their conclusions," Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr stated. "Iran's actions seem to be against the grain of the agreement.”
The suspicious work in the Parchin site is not contradictory to the details of the agreement, but it questions Iran's willingness to stand up to its commitment of providing information regarding its nuclear program.
In addition to signing the agreement with the world powers, Iran also signed an agreement with the IAEA, whose details remain confidential. The purpose of the deal was to shed light on the military dimensions of the Iranian nuclear deal and it includes inspections in the Parchin facility. In the next few months, inspectors are expected to arrive at the facility, but if Iran destroys evidence, it could sabotage their work.
