What's new

Replacing Pakistan Navy's Westland Sea King helicopters.

The NH90 is a white elephant, I can't see these birds being anything but a burden on the PN and its limited OP EX budget.
PN can afford only 06 of them ....going for anything else would be a disappointment !

The numbers are irrelevant. The NH-90 is plagued with troubles and would be nothing but a burden on the PN. Much better to get soemthing like the S-70B/MH-60R that are expensive to buy upfront but are very advanced and proven machines with lower operational costs.

I sincerely doubt that the thingy under the tail is a weapon. More likely it is part of a ASW submarine detection suite (i.e. APM-60 towed submerged magnetic anomaly detector. The alternative load is a dipping sonar). It is quite plain from other pic that the ASW torpedo is mounted to the side underneath the fuselage.

Sources say frames were too old.
So that means PN declined airframes offered?

My humor would lead someone to such a nice research ...I never knew :D ....awesome by the way ....and that is a dipping sonar ...!

S-70B is a proven machine but again ...anything US ...we may get it with a lot of strings attached and that is certainly not the best part of it ....otherwise ...our navy loves things coming from the US :D

The S-70B is arguably the world's most capable and advanced ASW helicopter in service to day, if you can get it go for it, the NH-90 looks pretty but it is not as capable and is a nightmare to keep operational.

No second opinion about that ...but you missed the point in my argument .....Sea Hawks would come with some strings attached ....which our forces do not like anymore ....!

Although buying used Mi-17s from Muslim countries can help a lot. Why not buy some 15-20 Mi-17s and upgrade them with Chinese or EU kits along with the bottom for landing on sea. Sell 6 Sea King to any private company in Pakistan.

Such a long thread on something that's not even happening or heard of as of yet . I think if they are to replaced it will be with the Z-9's but who knows what will happen.

Nothing is happening right now brother , as far as I know our Sea Kings have gone through upgrade from last I heard and have read . My point is there is no news then why talk about it until something is in the works simply.
I also think there isn't any move for Chinese submarines as well and nor the ships at all. Only 2 Tugs and a Tanker. May be US might take away the OHP as well.

I think PN should have to look towards something else to be acquired.

Improved version of Z-9 shall be suitable in terms of availability, affordability & maintenance wise. However P-3C orions are also doing the same anti-submarine job and looks better than helicopters.

For anti-ship role, KA-52K also seems suitable but requires approval from russia.
