Renault formally announces entry into Pakistan

Take it offroad and see what i mean.. its a good car for roads but not an SUV in true sense... its a car with a lil more road clearance.

Its a cross over.
offorad is relative term
but i have taken off road multiple times with no issues waht so ever, it can handles off road best in compact SUv class, nothing comes closer ... be it honda CRV , Ford escape or sante fe

now comparing it with land crusier or toyota 4runner is obviously stupid as those are not compact SUVs

So how many units is Renault expecting to sell annually to make the investment in an actual manufacturing plant worth their while?
there is also potential for export
e.g ford is not selling anything in india but exporting assembled vehicles from india into Africa

Business plans do not go by potential but careful estimates. Renault-Nissan already have excess production capacity worldwide.

Pakistan really should make it a law / rule to at least develop 1 car 100% in Pakistan
out of your 8 car offerings in country

i.e You hire local Manufacturing Engineers and train them

VW
Renault
Fiat

Allow entry , with at least 1 car by each company need to made in Pakistan
You can see we will immediately have 3-4 Cars made 100% by Pakistani Engineers

Isnt Renault Kwid a very successful vehicle in India?
Kwid has decent sales figures and is currently the highest selling Renault car ever since Duster's production has been halted (expecting an updated/face-lift Duster in 2018) but it's competitors from Maruti, Tata & Hyundai are way ahead.

Also, Kwids produced in India have been ranked poorly in safety rating while it's competitors are way ahead in that aspect which made the Indian consumers to sway away from it

Its AWD with little off road capability look at the price tag 68,000 SAR starting
Mating the power output to all 4 wheels doesn't make it a proper AWD and all RAV4 could do is it let's you get off roads, like the roads you come across in rural areas without a tarmac but it is no way capable of handling even the basic hill climbs. It is just like a Hyundai Creta which gives you the feel of a compact SUV but is only as capable as a sedan of the same segment

do they have enough production in third world countries
than you are right they probably just opting for local demand but if not(which i think is the case) than they will aim for some exports in asian african region, it depends upon cost of production and different model more suited for thrid world countries
same is true for other companies, you have acess productionof ford but it will still use its plant in china and indai for exports all over the third world due to different regulations and low cost

Hyundai Creta is underpowered ,the competition for RAV 4 is with Nissan X Trail / Hyundai Tescon and on hill it doesnt struggle since AWD is computerized and it allows variable power output to any wheel base

Their plans will be clear soon enough. Renaults are expected on the road by 2019, not that far away.

I am not comparing it with the Creta but RAV4 just felt like sitting in a Creta, lack of power and response even at high speeds let alone off-roading and is the same with Tucson too but the Nissan Rogue & Subaru Forester which are competitors of RAV4 are way more capable
