Remarks by President Donald Tusk at the press conference following the EU-Japan summit in Tokyo

.
In a stunning defeat for the White House, Democrats in the House on Friday voted down a measure creating an assistance program for workers displaced by free trade agreements -- throwing final passage of the proposal in jeopardy until at least next week.

@LeveragedBuyout Parochial statists (your words) invading the House. Let's hope it fails again on Tuesday and fast track is overturned.
Remember, no matter how greedy you are, happy worker is a good worker and provides more ROI.

Related news- In a bizzare twist of events, after idk how many percent of egg laying chickens dies in US (hello Chinese farm standards-same ones that would have to be harmonized in TTIP) now has to import eggs from Netherlands. Dun worry, 'dem be good eggs. Eco!

Huh? The failure of TAA is a victory for free trade and capitalism. The state should not interfere with the market--those companies that fail should be allowed to fail, and those employees put out of work because of that failure will be hired by other companies if there is a need for their labor. It's unclear to me why I should be responsible for paying for unlimited welfare for some other company's failure.

In other words, like your previous posts, it's the opposite of what you present. The statists have failed.

Again, the opposite of reality. US regulation worked. The infected chickens have been caught by screening and slaughtered. It's a good thing that we have free trade so we can import eggs from elsewhere.

I agree to certain extent with not paying for someone else....but it is tied to fast track. Read the link i quoted. Or wait:

If that number holds and Obama doesn't flip votes the TAA bill won't pass and TPA won't even get a vote.

Same link as above.

the legislation is stuck in the House because of the defeat Obama and House Speaker John Boehner suffered on the first vote.

Is this a joke? If US regulation vis-a-vis standards (hygienic probably) worked, 80% of egg laying "capacities" wouldn't have died off.
But ya, i agree, good eggs coming your way. Bless free trade!

Now it's time for you to prove that avian flu has a link to hygenic standards. Or do you believe that Europe is immune?

It's becoming increasingly pointless to argue with you. You present fantasy, I counter with data. You present more fantasy, I counter with more data. If you don't present data to back up your arguments (e.g. that Europe's regulations are empirically superior, rather than just thinly-veiled protectionism), I won't waste my time, anymore.

Yes, yes, fantasy. But it helps that i have a large portion of American public and unions and apparently some politicians joining me in this "fantasy". It makes it all, much more real.

Hours after President Obama made a dramatic, personal appeal for support, House Democrats on Friday thwarted his push to expand trade negotiating power — and quite likely his chance to secure a legacy-defining accord spanning the Pacific Ocean.

In a remarkable blow to a president they have backed so resolutely, House Democrats voted to end assistance to workers displaced by global trade, a program their party created and has supported for four decades. That move effectively scuttled legislation granting the president trade promotion authority — the power to negotiate trade deals that cannot be amended or filibustered by Congress.

Ofcourse it's not over yet, the lobbyists will keep lobbying for another vote. We shall see how it turns out. But the irony of democrats torpedoing their own president is....telling to say the least.

Lots of literature on the subject, you just have to want to look for it and not be spoon fed by me.

Researchers think it is spreading through the droppings of wild ducks and geese as they migrate to the upper Midwest to breed during the warmer months of the year. But it’s unclear how the virus enters already tightly managed poultry houses, which typically are enclosed to prevent exposure to pathogens and predators.

Come on man, use brains, if 80% of anything that generates something dies off/stops working, you know something must be terribly wrong. It's not rocket science.

I have mixed feelings about the failure of TPA. TPA itself passed, but because of an arcane parliamentary rule, even its passage will be null if TAA is not also passed. Passing TAA undermines the case for TPP--all the efficiency gained through free trade will be undone by the higher taxes that will be imposed to pay the failed businesses/employees compensation. If higher taxes is the price of TPP, no thanks. Besides, the humiliation suffered by Obama is a great bonus.

You must be kidding. There is zero empirical evidence in that article you sent. It is filled with insinuation, and zero proof. We've been through this before:

Chances of a TPP Agreement by Year’s End Fading | Page 3

This part summarizes the entire problem: "The North American Meat Association, the National Pork Council, the American Meat Institute and other industry lobby groups are pushing the U.S. government to continue pressuring the EU to remove this ban which they contend is “not scientifically justified and inconsistent with international standards.”

Those who oppose TTIP on the basis of standards are a superstitious lot. If we cannot overcome their religious dogma, I would rather not participate. We can continue to regulate based on empirical evidence, while Europeans chant "science, science" and regulate based on superstition.

I want you to tell me explicitly, in your own words, what you think the implications of this are. If avian flu is spread by birds dropping excrement as they migrate, then... what, exactly? The scientists aren't sure this is how it's spread, and they are also not sure how the bird droppings get into the "tightly managed poultry houses."

How does this advance your assertion that European standards are superior to American standards, especially since Europe has also been struck by avian flu? Other than superstition, I mean.

Have you considered that your opposition to TTIP is emotional, based on the relentless propaganda you have been fed by the vested interests opposed to free trade in Europe, and not actually based on fact?

Hey, professor, do you have some forums which focus on international culture sharing, eco-cooperation, tourism share, ect? I stay here for weeks, but this forum is toooooo boring, too many trolls and hatred.
Why not to create some untrolling threads here to enlighten barbarian trolls here?

In Germany, we have a few thousand breweries, in fact, there used to be a brewerey in every village. Very few beer brands are sold nationwide as we usually drink local or regional beers. The taste of northern German beer (more bitter) and souther German beer (more sweet) are also very different.

I don't know any of the brands that you show on the picts. :(

6 yuan for Das Bier, 3 tins only 12yuan...But I bought local bear...Pineapple beer, 1yuan!

. .
I hope they taste as good as well. :)
Our local beer, very light, as you have tasted before? Plus it's mixed with pineapple juice, so basically, soft drink! But I like it. The new supermarket is really far, but you just need to buy five tins of beer, then the metro ticket fare is saved! EVERYTHING IS SOOO CHEAP!
