Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid on Friday said that the remaining fencing of the Pak-Afghan border would be completed with the consent of the neighbouring country, stating that "they are our brothers".

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Rashid said that around 2,600 kilometres of the border had been fenced and expressed the hope that the remaining 21km would be completed "with the consent of our brothers".

Pakistan has fenced most of the border despite protestations from Kabul, which has contested the British-era boundary demarcation that splits families and tribes on either side.

Over the past few weeks, videos have surfaced on social media purportedly showing Taliban fighters uprooting a portion of the fence along the Pak-Afghan border, claiming that the fencing had been erected inside Afghan territory.

In a more recent video being shared on Twitter, Afghan Defence Ministry spokesman Enayatullah Khwarzmi was seen saying that Pakistan had no right to fence the border and create a divide, adding that such a move was "inappropriate and against the law".

On Jan 3, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, during a press conference in Islamabad, had acknowledged that there were "some complications" pertaining to the fencing of Pak-Afghan border but added that the matter was being discussed with the Afghan Taliban government as he blamed "certain miscreants" for blowing such incidents out of proportion.

A day later, the Taliban government in Afghanistan said that issues related to the fencing of the border would be addressed through diplomatic channels.

However, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Maj Gen Babar Iftikhar on Jan 5 categorically said that fencing of the border would continue as planned, adding that the blood of martyred soldiers was involved in erecting it.

Within few years, there would be no fence between Afganistan and Pakistan as Afgans would uproot the fence and Pak wouldn't do anything to stop them. We, all see the videos from time to time.

I know Pakistan has a government and a foreign ministry with a loud mouth foreign minister, they are very capable of making official statements.

I am not obsessed with the establishment, every country in the world has an establishment, we need to get away from these conspiracy theories. Yes, Pakistan Army does have extra influence, but they are not God. They are a Pakistani institution within Pakistan.

Shiekh Rashid like many people in Pakistan do everything except their own job. He should be gagged but for that you need a working foreign ministry.

The thing is, as much as we want don't want our sovereignty trodden on, Afghanistan could be a very potent strategic asset, so while we could show them what's good, it's not a long-term solution.

It's in our interest to achieve co-operation between Kabul and Islamabad, even more than China-Pak level, hurting them won't achieve that. They need to be convinced to let go of the Durrand line concept, and accept KPK and whatever else as Pakistani territory.

Possible solution:

1. In my opinion, the only way we can do this is psychologically. First showcase your strength and military might, so when they look at Pakistan, who is right next door, they would not think of ever attempting to cause conflict and war, but rather prefer us as allies. You need to radiate dominance. This of course will be difficult since they are very egotistical currently after having 'defeated' America/NATO. You can start this by livestreaming our military parade day and some exercises, in Afghanistan, even maybe invite a few officials from there to watch for themselves.

2. Second step, you need to logically and legally prove that they have no right to any sovereign lands of Pakistan, and it would not hold any weight in UN or anywhere else. They'd effectively have to wage war to achieve anything, something they'll be slightly less wanting to do due to first step.

3. Third step, the people on our side of the border, in the vast majority, 90%+, need to they themselves condemn any action by Afghanistan at the border, or any claims on the land. They must say they are Pakistani, and this land is Pakistani, we don't want to be part of your land. At this point what are they fighting for? People who they themselves claim themselves to be Pakistani? It would be morally defeating and waging war would feel pointless, especially against such a powerful force. (Integrated in step one) You do this through media campaign and providing development in Pakistan to them. Give Pathans media positions in Pashtun language and regional media, show development Pakistan has given, and show they are extremely pro-Pakistan, and anti-KPK-belonging-to-Afghanistan.
(This is the most important thing to do for success)

4. And last, which Pakistan is essentially doing currently, show that you are supportive of Afghanistan and we are a powerful ally to have. We aren't interested in conflict with you, and we can help lobby for you diplomatically in other countries. Utilise Islam here, they are Muslim, push for it on an Islamic-brotherhood basis if anything, and push Ind1a as an enemy of Islam due to their K4shmiri genocide and occupation.

At this point they will be morally defeated, the force to fight against would be very difficult to beat, the thing they are fighting for rejects them and is happy where it is.
