Reliance Defence and Engineering, controlled by Reliance Infrastructure, said it ‘launched’ the first two of its five patrol vessels being built for the Indian Navy at its shipyard in Pipavav, Gujarat.

The ships are being constructed under the “P-21” project.

The Company is also engaged in construction of one Training ship and fourteen Fast Petrol Vessels (FPVs) for the Indian Cost Guard.

The patrol vessels are armed with 76mm Super Rapid Gun Mount (SRGM) system along with two 30mm AK-630 guns which provide medium range and short range offensive and defensive capabilities, it said.

The armament is remotely controlled through an electronic Fire Control System.

The ships are fitted with 20,000 kW diesel engine driven propulsion systems and can deliver speeds upto 25 knots.

All ship operations are controlled by an intelligent Integrated Platform Management System which has interfaces for all operational activities on-board the ship.

The company has also built Ice Bulk Carriers for a Norwegian company, Offshore Support Vessels for ONGC and Offshore Deck Cargo Barges for NPCC-UAE.

It is also engaged in repairing and retrofitting commercial and defence ships as well as mobile oil drilling platforms for international clients.

judging by specifications, its outgunned by chinese and pakistani navy

. . . . . . . . . .
Every industry can involve. But its risky , because only govt sector is a buyer and its very limited market with very high standards. Instead building one truck for Indian army, TATA can make billions in making parts of any local cars.

TATA is expanding its defence business hugely and Reiance says they want to see 20% of their revenue come from the defence sector within the next 10 years. The market is not as insignificant as you think- India will be spending almost $500b on defence over the next 6 years and with Indian defence orders there is always the opportunity to export to third markets.

Hpoe fully more and more private players come out to fulfill the needs of defence sector, and hopflly defence sectors become more accomodating of them.
