Because surprise this is the age of free media and news traveling faster than before. Everyone was aware that the First Nations people got the shit end of the stick, but also most of these residential schools were located in extremely remote areas and were run by the Catholic Church. If so how come the evil acts are only being exposed today after almost a century ? Why only people around the world get so angry now? your government didn't tell you the whole scale and intensity of their genocides until ghostly evidence keep coming up.
Now while most of the children who died did so from diseases like tuberculosis which was rampant at the time, some did die because of abuse. Why were their families unaware of their fate? Because it was easier for the priests/nuns to say they ran away rather than undertake the responsibility of informing and sending the remains back to the family.
The fact that residential schools messed up is common knowledge, the fact that so many died remained elusive because of the remote locations and obfuscation by the Catholic Church which is why we are pushing them for accountability at the request of our First Nations citizens.
Evil in whose eyes? Yours? And I did not say that.Promoting LGBT and extreme feminism is another evil in the West. You cannot compensate the victims of the genocide with another evil behavior.
