Redefining Identity: A fascinating documentary about innovation and software entrepreneurship in Pakistan

I just received a message from the folks over at FiveRivers who have produced this wonderful documentary on innovation & entrepreneurship in Pakistan. It’s really worth watching, and I love the underlying message: the notion that we can redefine our perceived identity with our hard work and achievements. I can certainly sign up for that, and I’m sure so would you!

Here’s a bit more about the documentary:

“Redefining Identity takes a look at the amazing entrepreneurship and creativity that is being unleashed in Pakistan, where young technologists are coming together to lead a very real revolution that has powerful social, economic and technological implications. In doing so, these young Pakistanis are also transforming Pakistan’s perception in the minds of millions of people all around the world who use their products and appreciate their creativity. This 10 minute film is a rare glimpse into the reality of today’s Pakistan. Anyone with an interest in technology and startups in general, or Pakistan specifically, will find it a very worthwhile watch.”

There are quite a few subtleties to catch in this video… listen for that line about not going by obviously assumed western names when fielding support calls. Sound familiar Plenty of other one liners embedded in here that make this a fairly engrossing and exciting watch. If you want to discuss the documentary, you are welcome to do so here, and also at the “Redefining Identity” facebook page, here.

If you are a software entrepreneur or involved in the tech industry in Pakistan, this video would be a great asset to share with partners, potential customers and others who might not have a clear view about what tech companies in Pakistan are truly like, and the quantum of innovation now being unleashed in Pakistan. I really see this film as a resource that everyone involved with tech in Pakistan should use actively, and hope there will be many more similar efforts in future.

Without further ado, here is the courtesy YouTube -- be SURE to watch this in full screen mode -- it’s definitely worth it:

Pepper.pk completes Hat-trick of World #1 titles with Ninja Fruit Bash!

Lahore-based Pepper.pk has been in the news quite a bit recently and that’s only because they’ve been doing newsworthy things! They’ve just completed a previously unparalleled feat – their third application, Ninja Fruit Bash, has hit World #1 on Blackberry Appworld. With over 25,000 applications now listed on the marketplace, this is no small achievement if you accomplish it just once. But three times, and that too, within the span of a single year, is just unbelievable.

How Young Technologists Are Leading a Silent Revolution in Pakistan

Ever since the 9/11 attacks, there has been a perception about Pakistan and Muslims in general, a social stigma that is attached to us that we are all terrorists.

Billions are judged by the acts of a few. Its a fact that over 95% of Muslims condemn these Islamic fundamentalists who are haunting us today. So how do we correct this perception?

Well an observer might point out to the fact that there are already people who are working to achieve exactly that. Look at the brilliant talent that this country generates, look at our fashion industry, look at various companies and startups whose work speaks for itself.

In fact Pakistan is one of the top places to look for freelance work. So by letting their work do the talking for them, individuals and companies/organizations are helping the world realize that we are not fundamentalist barbarians after all.

The video aims to give a reality check and describes how young technologists are leading a revolution to disprove preconceived notions about us.

as for Blackberry -- yes I've seen many people using them in Pakistan. Ufone and Mobilink are the best known carriers who provide the data services for Blackberry

I'm a proud owner of a BB Bold.

Sir this an advertisment attempt by mahe zehra husain....half of the video is about the services she and her company offers.
Plus showing those models in the begining as a teaser...something secular fascists cant help...trying to attract horny indian men so that they watch the entire video hoping for another sneak at the end.

what has a samosa pakora vedor to do with this silent revoluton?:undecided:
