The Islamist insurgency in Pakistan is entering a new phase, the creation of a political arm in preparation for "negotiating" with the government. We have now had, in rapid succession, after the Saudi Arabian Ambassador's call for negotiations with Ulema in the framewrok of a jirga, the publication of Imran Khan, Qazi Hussein Ahmad and now the mad Mullah Aziz's diatribes against Muslims and Pakistan.
The Federal governement has said publically that it will not negotiate with the Islamists, now the islamist insurgency must create circumstances that will bring political pressure on the federal governement to do what it promised not to do.
Pakistan have a window available to it for conducting operations against the Islamist insurgency, but this window is closing fast; Imran, Qazi and this Mad mullah Aziz would not have been heard from unless a determination had been made that whatever consensus had been arrived at in Pakistani society against Islamist insurgency, is now vulnerable - you will note the cessation of suicide bomb attacks in the Punjab -- attacks on Islamabad, Peshawar and to some extent karachi, will be on, as will attacks against govt employees and PPP/ANP politicians --- I give you a gaurantee, no attacks on Nawaz - you decide for your selves what that means -
An operation the army had begun 4 weeks ago, the operation in Waziristan, died a premature death, it took a single ambush, a repeat performance in which elements of the Fauj, whether through collusion or incompetence, created a crack in the wall of confidence civil society though they were secure behind, it has taken the American Drones to answer the Islamist ambush of the Fauj, and in the meantime US and UK forces combat Talib in Helmand, the lack of operations against the Islamist insurgency in Waziristan has not gone unnoticed.
