The world's football champions, Spain, are preparing to set foot in India to take the country's fans by storm.

With plans to open football schools and play exhibition matches, newly appointed Spanish ambassador to India Gustavo De Aristegui said, "India is a top-notch priority for Spain" while conversing with Maharashtra governor K Sankarnarayanan on Monday.
The envoy said football clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona would open schools in India and would play a couple of matches for Indian audiences.

For tennis buffs, Rafael Nadal would play an exhibition game in Mumbai, said a Raj Bhavan press release on Tuesday.

The ambassador informed the governor that a high-level ministerial delegation led by King Juan Carlos I will be arriving in India on a four-day visit in October during which the king will also meet top business leaders in Mumbai.

"Many Spanish companies are already working in India... One of our companies has won the contract for the Mumbai Metro," said Aristegui.

Other initiatives on the canvas: a Spanish cultural centre in Mumbai, business schools across India and a consulate in Chennai.

"We see India as a great power and wish to have greater economic presence in the region," he said.

Gonna book my tickets soon!

I live in Kolkata. Just looking at the grounds of the first division football clubs in this rainy season, even the backyard of my house is in better state. Kids take up bat and pad before they can change their diaper by themselves, but very few takes football seriously as a career now a days.

Its not just football same happens for other sports too.....Its our responsibility to cheer the other sportsmen. Nehwal, the badminton player, is a star in Indonesia, as she beat Chinese players and Indonesia and China have rivalry in that game.

I don't see any fan page of Indian Hockey Team etc.

Why not people go to airport to cheer winning team like they do for cricketers.?

Start a fan page on facebook on Football or support the existing one....Social networking sites are the future of changing a country just by sitting on the chair and supporting those who actually do the work.

Football is not much popular in South asia. Cricket is popular and field hockey is official sport of Pakistan and India.
This is good chance that people will see many great football pllayers in India. My favourite David Villa and Torres.

That's what people say, and it's far from reality. Only >30 peoples are interested in football now.

I think the coal of football is present in India and we only needed a continuous spark to burn it.
