Ready to do anything to ensure stability in Pakistan: Sri Lanka

High Commissioner of the Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka Jayalath Weerakkody on Tuesday said business community of Pakistan can play an important role in containing terror as it is also linked to the overall economic situation.

He said his country has faced sectarianism and terrorism for decades and we can share expertise with Pakistan to help combat terror.

“My country is ready to do anything to ensure stability in Pakistan.”

He was talking to a delegation of FPCCI that included SVC Diplomatic Affairs FPCCI Kanwar Qutubuddin, Chairman Media and PR, FPCCI Malik Sohail, President Women’s Chamber Samina Fazil, Adnan Mirza and leading exporter Kulsoom Khan.

Air Chief Marshal (retd) Jayalath Weerakkody RWP, VSV, USP informed that a delegation led by a Cabinet Minister is due in Islamabad soon to hold a Joint Economic Commission meeting with local authorities.

and how are they gonna do it , when big economies like america , france and britain were not able to do it. even pakistan's best friend china is not able to help pakistan with terrorism, there is a old saying "even god can't help those , who can't help themselve's " , it applies to pakistan , srilanka better understand it.

Nice comments... Sri Lankan, Turkish, and Chinese peoples have true feelings towards Pakistanis as per personal experience; and these are naturally mutual.
For instance if the Sri Lankans wanted, they were able to literally destroy cricket in our country in 2009.

Sri Lanka with its own choice is being reduced to a trading economy. Their dependence on tourism from india is enormous. If someone wants to check on that, please see their economic policy papers.

The current anti india sentiment rightly placed due to the long LTTE insurgency there. However, rajapakse government is increasingly cornered by its political foes. It is just the nationalistic honeymoon period for rajapakse with a lot of parades around kolpetty and gall face road. But with the depreciating currency and the increasing poverty upcountry, trading will only deteriate the situation. The only market that sri lanka can supply best is the indian market. So expect the slight cockiness to disappear pretty soon. Pakistan is of no use to sri lanka than what it has already been and sri lanka Is anyway on course to realize that.

much sooner than realized, things will turn to normal. Further it is important that they treat the tamils right. If they do not, like they were doing earlier, dissatisfaction will reign supreme and this time it will be more telling. China or no china, rajapakse will feel the heat. It is quite strange to see that less than 10% pakistanis even pay taxes and then they blame zardari as being the evil and mr. 10%!!

thats a helpful neighbour GOP should consult SL ... they have faced same insurgency for many year and eventually had got rid of it . We should form with countries like Srilanka , Afghanistan , Iran ,China & Bangladesh a joint regional shared intelligence and some sort force who can help crush these extremists & terrorists from our native lands

Pakistan and srilanka have a common problem which is"" india "" which is a reason behind a lot of issues in Pakistan and SL. As far as amerikis etc are concerned they dont live in the region nor they have any interests , they are serving self interests once resolved ... We are here to stay!!
