US Readies Earthquake Relief Response

WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Barack Obama sent condolences to the people of Japan on Friday and said the United States stood ready to help its close ally in the wake of a massive earthquake and tsunami.

The U.S. Defense Department was preparing American forces in the Pacific to provide relief after the earthquake, which generated a tsunami that headed across the Pacific Ocean toward Hawaii and the west coast of the U.S. mainland.

Hundreds of people were killed in Japan, and the death toll was expected to rise.

"The friendship and alliance between our two nations is unshakable, and only strengthens our resolve to stand with the people of Japan as they overcome this tragedy," Obama said in a statement.

His chief of staff, Bill Daley, awakened the president to tell him about the earthquake at about 4 a.m. EST.

The U.S. military effort included at least six U.S. Navy ships, although defense officials had not yet received a request for assistance from the Japanese government, Pentagon spokeswoman Navy Commander Leslie Hullryde said.

"We are positioning our forces so we are ready to respond and provide disaster relief, if requested," she said.

As when Pakistan was hit with devastating floods and as when the Indian Ocean tsunami devastated many countries' shorelines, the United States is ready to respond with humanitarian aid without condition. Taking the posts of idiots on Facebook as a representation of the reaction of the American people is as stupid as blaming the Americans for attacking themselves on 9/11.

You should know that over 30 million Chinese had died during the Japanese invasion, and there is no official appology. So some Chinese have more right to blame the Japanese than Americans.

Americans already got their revenge by nuked Japan twice and forced them to surrender. There is no reason to hate them anymore. Otherwise, they have really shallow mind to live in this World.

In fact, Chinese and Japanese are not enemies, not friends. The relationship between the two countries will change with the political demand.
We have the same culture, we all understand each other.

Frankly, i think some Japanese are really coward to face the Americans since they have just nuked the $hit out of them.

Therefore, it is good to unleash their frustration to the Chinese people since they believe the Chinese people are inferior and have never defeated them.

Can they really say 'No' to Americans in one day? Well, let see what would happen once the landscape of the Superpower has been changed.

No, I'm not going to say its the fat from the pork dumplings thats gone straight to the brain of chinese, its just that some idiots will make such comments, typically on the internet, and one can only ignore it.

Whats disappointing is that another set of idiots will use such anonymous comments to make ideological (ahum!) arguments, or racist taunts or generally vent their real bias and hatred.

China has a lot of people. A small number of Chinese people can not represent all Chinese people.

As an Iraqi I can tell you that the "insurgents" as the Americans called them, killed most of the Iraqis that have died during and after the coalition invasion of my country. That does not include the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis that Saddam Hussein had murdered by his thugs or killed by poison gas. It also does not include the thousands or millions of Iraqis and Iranians that died in the Iran-Iraq War. Make no mistake, there have been unnecessary deaths caused by the Americans and their allies, but most of them were mistakes, not criminality.

Do you believe that millions of Chinese deserved to die during the "Cultural Revolution?"

I believe Japan has been humiliated enough after WWII. An apology after 66 years won't make any material difference.

Frankly speaking, I think it is stupid for victors of wars to ask the losers to apologise.

China has 1.3 billion people. We can only do most of Chinese people are mature. If you want, you can always find some immature Chinese.

Older generation Chinese really hate Japanese for their brutality during the war. When I told my dad about the quake, he basically said "good, let them all die." 30 Million is not easy to forget. Pearl Harbour was 2,000 Americans.

The Cultural Revolution was simply Mao's fault, but you can't blame the whole communist party for this. Many CCP members were also persecuted by Mao. We have simply scrapped the incorrect parts in Mao's ideology.

At least Iraq was better under Saddam than it is now. Some Iraqis i known simply don't really hate Saddam that much, but the Kurds really do.
