Raytheon Coyote Block 2+ Experimental Anti-UAV Missile

Seems like a very big rocket to send after a tiny drone? could be alot smaller yield which will save money instead of increasing the of weight the explosion for only targetting a drone

These are small missiles..

These are small missiles..
Depending on the threat faced it could be the same cost or lower. For e.g The types being faced by Saudi Arabia from Iran are probably in the $250- $25000 range so it really depends on the cost effectiveness of the system. They really a prime customer but things have been sour lately so other sourced besides the US are being courted.

These are much cheaper than let's say the Patriot missiles or the Aim-120 C being used.. that's what I mean..

The US Congress has approved all weapons and missiles that KSA asked for.. even Biden can not play with that.. Both more Aim-120 D missiles and Patriot missiles were approved lately..

KSA is not totally dependent on US weapons as before, maybe 70% now, it is even getting lower to 50%..at least.. And I guess the 50% or even less will be mostly in the air force in 8 years from now.. Since the deadline is 2030..

Anti drone drones? could that work?
Yes, basically racing drones (in this case jet powered) to close with and either do a hit to kill or proximity detonation.

This approach is more cost effective then a guided missile against slower moving threats.

I think the cost valuation would run against the asset the system is protecting. E.g., if this system can stop a drone from knocking out a key GBAD radar worth $20-30 m (and critical to using a $100-200 m SAM system), it may be good.

Otherwise, I think for general anti-UAV defence, you'd need directed energy weapons. I think, in the long run, the defence industry will look to incorporate DEWs to mobile SHORAD systems (like Pantsir). The constraint is sufficient power generation. I guess that would require disaggregating, thus resulting in dedicated DEW units (e.g., a DEW array plus power generator, back-up batteries, and fuel all onto a 8x8 truck).

That or you accept UAVs are gonna hurt you, so you devolve to the 3 things this world has no shortage of: Toyota Hilux trucks, buncha guys, and AK-47 + RPG-7 stocks.

It’s too soon to tell which counter-drone tactics and technologies will prove most effective, but using drones to hunt drones has the appeal of using a platform that’s potentially as cost-efficient as the threat it’s trying to counter.

Drones will shakeup the archaic doctrines based around armored brigades and artillery especially in the subcontinent. It's one thing to provide air cover against helis and strike fighters and another thing against numerous and relatively cheap drones.

I hope PAF and PAA will have numerous well trained squadrons in a few years.

The US also uses Stinger to down Drones..

It already has,the iranian 358 loitering munition has at least 3 confirmed drone [1 scan eagle+2 wing loongs] kills in yemen, plus at least 1 more [ch4] probable.

Heres the video of one of the three,a scan eagle getting taken out.
And a wing loong[one of 2 shot down by the system]
The iranians have also used the karrar uav to try out a couple of concepts, one was using a short ranged a2a missile to shoot down another drone.

While another was using a karrar with an optronic seeker to hunt down and perform a near intercept on another karrar.

This is just a missile.

its not that big considering you can put it on a vehicle like the LATV you saw in the video, and its need to be big enough to have the range to hit the drones.
