He had brutally crushed a rebellion by the tribe after myths spread that Ghauri had died fighting a Khwarezmian invasion, which made the tribe rebel. When he was resting in their homeland after his defeat of Prithviraj, some 30 tribesmen sneaked into his tent and stabbed him 30 times killing him in the process. The assassins were caught and tortured to death by Ghaur's men later on.
