ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah has filed a written complaint with the army chief regarding the role of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in the drug case against him.
Sanaullah alleged on Geo News show "Naya Pakistan" that former prime minister Imran Khan, former advisor on accountability Shahzad Akbar, and former Director General ANF Major General Arif Malik were involved in filing a fake case of 15kg of heroin possession against him.

He further alleged that Akbar was in possession of the bag containing 15kg of heroin and that he asked the Islamabad police to plant it in his room at Parliament Lodges. "When Islamabad Police refused, Maj Gen Malik got involved in this conspiracy and got benefits in return," he claimed.
The interior minister said that in addition to Fawad Chaudhry, Tariq Bashir Cheema and Ijaz Shah in the cabinet also called the case a hoax.
Rana Sanaullah said that he has filed a written complaint with Chief of Army Staff General QamarJaved Bajwa regarding the role of the ANF in the case, as well as complained to him in person. While his complaint has been received, he said that the army has "its own method of investigation".

So who made the bogus case? The army or the government, or both? Army guys ran the ANF, while PTI ministers and affiliates backed and prosecuted. We also had several claims from both the PTI and the ANF that irrefutable evidence was on hand, and that there was a very clear video of the apprehending of Rana Sanaullah that would prove his guilt.

First these useless pricks spent months attacking and maligning Justice Qazi Faez Isa, and now Imran & Co. are backtracking and apologising, distancing themselves. Seems like a similar story here. It's pathetic.

From a procedural standpoint, the ANF was the agency that received the alleged ‘tip/intel’, determined it was actionable, made the arrest and alleged drug seizure.

The ANF was therefore responsible for providing all feedback and information necessary for the civilian government to make a decision to move forward with prosecuting the case.

The responsibility, therefore, rests with the ANF/Army.

As I recall in the days after the arrest, Shehryar Afridi (Minister of Narcotics Control at the time, under whose theoretical control comes the ANF) stood in parliament, while citing the Quran and Sunnah (as some politician types are wont to do it seems), and then proceeded on a 10 min rant on Rana Sanaullah's guilt. He also said as much in a separate presser while again citing video evidence. And let's not forget, both the government and the army were on the "same page" in this era.

Who provided the video and/or other evidence to the PTI government and ministers?

Intelligence, evidence etc are all provided by the investigating and intel organizations, in this case the ANF which is basically under the control of the Army given that an active duty Army General runs the organization. The civilian government and ministers therefore would have based their claims and decision to prosecute on the evidence provided to them by the ANF/Army.

The responsibility here therefore lies with the ANF-Army leadership for fabricating a case, planting evidence and misleading the civilian government.
