Work on converting the Dhaka-Chittagong road from 2 lane to 4 lane is currently in progress. Around 1/3rd has already been completed.

Remember India attained independence a full 24 years before BD and so BD started from much behind but has surpassed India in some areas, comparable in others and is still behind in a few others.

Dude, the main reason united Pakistan disintegrated was because BD resources was being used to develop Pakistan(West Pakistan) and not BD(East Pakistan).

Look at the state of the BD economy now and see how robust it is. While India economy falters it is growing 6%+ year on year.
Already hundreds of millions has been allocated from the state budget this year to build the 2 billion dollar Padma bridge. BD is now able to finance multi-billion dollar projects with its own money.

The time is very near when BD will no longer need foreign loans to build infrastructure. It will still take them if offered on preferential terms but can build anyway without them.

Try to process what I write before replying.

Padma bridge will cost around 2 billion dollars over 4 Years. The BD government will pay 2 billion dollars over 4 years. As a start for this year BD government has allocated hundreds of millions to pay for the current year construction cost of the bridge. Next year more hundreds of millions of dollars will be used to pay for that year's construction costs.

With BD's stable growing economy and minute external debt, around 18 per cent of GDP and falling, you can see that BD will soon start to be able to finance multiple billion dollar construction projects with its own money. By 2020, BD will be able to build the majority of its infrastructure without taking out loans.

And don't make yourself look ignorant by comparing China with Zimbabwe. BD and India are at a similar level in terms of overall development and the GDP growth rates can be compared.

Bangladesh need to focus on it's military to protect interests of it's citizens as well as those oppressed Muslims in North East & Rakhine.

If somehow North East & Rakhine joins Bangladesh, then the future of Bangladesh will be as bright as the daylight. Bangladesh will gain massive strategic importance as it will become link between South Asia & East Asia as well as transport route from Khaleej e Bengal(Bay of Bengal) to China, Bhutan & even Nepal.

Northeast is nothing BUT insurgency and secession. Just because they look different from the mainstream Indian they are always being subject to huge discrimination and prejudice, and judging from the way you guys have been acting on this thread, you guys SERIOUSLY have a racism problem. I wouldn't blame them for wanting succession and joining China or in the very least Myanmar, but if I was a Northeasterner, I would join a seperatist movement. Think of it this way: It is understandable why the Northeast wouln't want to join Bangladesh, but what makes you think a lasting peace between the Northeast and India is even possible?

What makes you think that a lasting peace will not be possible? have we shown any weaknesses in putting down any attempts by outside forces and their intelligence wing aided insurgency before when we were at our weakest point? what makes you think that it will be even possible today?

Whatever division had to happen, happened in 1947 because the brits were there - we learnt our lesson, nothing else is possible now. We only added territory after 1947 and will add more if we get pushed. We aren't called a major status quo power for nothing.
