The project ended years ago. It was not a VERY long section but yes, Lahore-Khanewal electrified lines were 294 Km long. With the energy/electricity crisis these locomotives were taken off-track, now the electricity lines are also being dismantled. I don't think we will see electric trains for a decade or so. that too only if we start addressing the electricity problem today.

Shared Railway history
I went through some old books today and found some interesting informations about common lineage of locomotives that is shared between both nations. ALCO provided both IR and PR its DL500 series locomotives, In India these were classified as WDM 1 and off course these locos went on to serve PR as well in large numbers leading several prestigious trains like Quetta express.

Then of course there were, EMD manufactured GT 26 based export models, which in India were classified as WDM 4.

I am sorry for being blunt, but this is absolutely horrible! "Old bullshit, in new container", that's what it is!

Look at the positioning and size of the window on the doors! If you are inside the train, you have to almost crouch to take a peek outside the door window!

How hard is it put a larger window (like they do already in the LHB's) so that it is convenient for people inside as well as on the platforms to take a peek in and out of the door window?

They manufactured 50,000 coaches and still can't get such a simple thing right? I mean what kind of professionals design these monstrosities?

Or am I missing something here?

A probable way to share production capabilities and reduce costs would be a joint development venture for Both PR and IR considering you have such similar railway infrastructure. It is also going in a similar path way - the pace of development in India and Pakistan seems to be similar as well (which according to me is kind of appalling for India - given the economic strength, you would think they would spend more on comfortable coaches).

Is there any grass root R&D going on for your railways in IR? I want to read it.

Both countries have common Broad gauge network as against standard gauge used in rest of the world and hence there is lot to gain from Indian expertise and manufacturing base of rolling stock is concerned. However given the rather poor diplomatic relations between the nations, trade is a casualty and hence practically it is difficult to see Indian manufactured Locos running in PR colors.

Leasing or Selling of locomotives to Pakistan won't be feasible for some time now, not due to diplomatic situation but due to a shortage of locomotives in India itself. We have a whole range of WAM 4s and WDM 2s to replace. Also according to some articles, our current fleet of over 8000 locomotives is insufficient for our operations. And given that our Rail minister has said that we are working to add another 23,000 kms of track in next five years , we will need a lot of locos.

@Ankit Kumar 001 is right about shortages of loco faced in India. While Indian factories are one of the largest manufacturers of locomotives (CLW produces 280 odd electrics with 20 more coming from ELW Bhusawal and Dahod and DLW varanasi around 170-180 WDG 4D and WDP 4D with DMW patiala and Parel and Golden Rock workshops some ALCO 251C WDM3D). this figure still falls short of required number considering codal retirement of older WCAM 1 WAM 4 WAG 5B and ofcourse WDM2 diesels.
while a new Electric facility is coming up at Dankuni W Bengal, not much progress is made on diesel loco front.
so in respect to export of locos to PR, where in my understanding only ALCO variants would be universally useful (given lower axle loading), export would be tricky and this is where Chinese loco manufacturers have been successful in supply.
given the fact that Bangladesh, Sri lanka also use broad gauge rails along with Pakistan, maybe this issue can be taken up in some SAARC meet. Indian WDM 3A and WDM 3D class is already performing very well in both Bangladesh and Sri lanka.

This years railway budget proposed to increase the production rate of EMD locomotives by DLW Varanasi by 50%. Hope this happens quickly.

I think the Railways , did not deliver a quality product , its merely a equal level unit to perhaps existing old units with minor electrical units

Yess, this one is good now :)

And the TV part is great as well, people normally underestimate it. I have traveled from Faisalabad to Karachi and since they time they introduced TV in the compartments, the 16 odd hour journey looks a lot more shorter and manageable now. Easy to pass time on such long journeys watching movies on decent 32" LCD TV. The business trains here started this facility a few years ago and i prefer using that if i have to travel by train (have used it a couple of times since the TV thingy started :) )
But most of passengers would not agree with you, they prefer personal infotainment system :D
