What's new

Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman were the best batsmen I bowled to: Pakistan's Mohammad Asif

I only remotely remember Imran Khan bowling and that too at the end of his career - he wasn't express pace then but was quite accurate. We will just have to disagree on Zak. I think he was the third best left arm pacer to come out of the sub-continent behind Wasim and Chaminda Vaas.

The last few years have seen some good pace bowlers from India in terms of speed but they aren't accurate. Varun Aaron bowls between 145-150 but sprays.

Bowling at 145 KM/hr and going for 60 in 10 overs or plays a single match and is never seen again usual Indian fast bowler dilemma .

A Bowling average of 32 in tests and 30 in ODI . Pretty average for a player you claiming to be third best left arm . Kapil Dev explained it best once of the lack of good fast bowlers in India . He said Pakistani Psyche is aggressive and have more Fast bowler mentors compared to Indians who tend to be more tame .Third factor maybe due to the eating habits too . Pakistani's are great meat lovers which have abundance of protein .

karachi 2006 & lol at zaheer khan better than asif . check out 2nd ball and dream

What a joke this thread is !
People get excited for a loser who was banned for match fixing and soaking in his past glory.
A nation taking examples from wrong people is destined for doom !

Dravid>Tendulkar>Gangully>laxman..:coffee:

Gavaskar>Dravid

Imagine blunting the new ball from Marshall or Holding without helmet, surviving all the mean bouncers and still scoring daddy hundreds end of the day.

However it is extremely difficult to compare batsmen as great as Sachin or Dravid, just too many parameters will come into equation, If Sachin was as defensive as Dravid and scored at below 40 strike rate then I am sure his stats in tests would have been much much better than what you see now. Dravid never had the natural abilities of Sachin and Tendu lacked the temperament of Dravid.

Totally agree on Sunny.

I've often wondered about this irony. Pakistanis keep ribbing us about never being able to develop a fast bowler.

But they have never developed a batsman who can make it to a world Top 10. And we simply keep churning out legends generation after generation. Though Golden Generations where there are 4-5 probably come once in a lifetime.

I knew at some point someone will bring veg, meat, beef, hindu, muslim BS. My friend if meat was the criteria of strength then Pakistani wrestlers would not be continuously defeated by veg eating Haryanvis .

It all boils down to culture, India never had a fast bowling culture, people were mesmerized by the Gavaskars and Sachins, everyone wanted to be batsmen, we never truly had a bowling icon, we had decent enough bowlers like Kapil, Sreenath or Zaheer but they never really got proper partners, so instead of striking they had to the job of a workhorse.

But I can tell you my friend that things are changing fast, Pakistani bowling line regressed a lot in present years, Md Shami is a better bowler than Wahab and smarter than Amir. Trundlers like Rahat or Sohail would not even made into Pakistani domestic teams in the 90's, says a lot about the sorry state of Pak bowling department. Yasir is good, but depends too much on accuracy, from what I have seen he does not turn the ball much, outfox batsman with the length and variation, which may come good in dull pitches of UAE, but he will be thrashed around in Aus, Ind and SA.

And about aggression, the current Pakistani players are the tamest and most boring to watch. My pug is more aggressive than Misbah and Younus combined lol. I fell asleep every time I see Sami Aslam and Azhar Ali bat. Both are stroke less wonders. However Azhar seems to have good work ethic and temperament, he always makes the best out of the limited natural ability that he has. Only Babar Azam and Shafiq are worth watching. When you have two 40+ playing in the team and you clearly don't have proper replacements for them, then you know for sure the future is grim. Oh! how I miss the Pakistani team of the 90's, they were a treat to watch

Well, to be honest, they did produce some fine batsmen, they may not find a place in the top 10 as you said, but surely in their days were as good as they come. Hanif Mohammed, Zahir Abbas, Inzi, Miandad may not be all time greats but were very very good and would walk their way into any of the current teams today, This Pakistani team playing in Aus got to be the worst of all, it looks more like a old age home than a cricket team. I follow Pakistani domestic seasons as well, hardly any promising talents. This lack of talent is really something to worry. I don’t see a bright future for Pakistan cricket and my fear is they will slowly decline like the west indies team

That would be really sad. Regardless of our problems with each other, their team with Wasim and Waqar steaming in to bowl was really a treat.

I must admit I do not follow Pakistan cricket at all. I find it super boring.

PCB, Pakistani Awam and the players themselves are to blame for this decline. Imran held that team together for nearly two decades, then slowly it started falling apart piece by piece. Whenever they find some talent they start comparing them with their Indian counterparts and hype them up to the Moon, the players of course coming from paindoo families with all fame, money and exposure overnight start thinking themselves as cricketing demigods who does not need any training, practice and can be as much arrogant as they want and regress themselves in the process. Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shahzad are prime examples, now they are doing the same with Babar Azam. Imran, Wasims were educated and street smart and these paindoos are as dumb as they come. See couple examples below, enjoy the paindooness

Yeah because Zaheer played in more matches than both Asif and Shoaib whose career was full of injuries and controversies.
There is no comparison, as a bowler Asif was miles ahead, but alas he will always be remembered as a tainted convicted felon, what a pathetic way to screw up your own career !!

The current lot is not what we were in 80s or the 90's but still galloped to number 1 spot in tests not too long ago . As for Eating habits , Indian MMA fighters are regularly getting beaten by Pakistani's

What are you even talking about ? Yousaf , Younis , Miandad , Inzimam had averages above 50 in tests . While India producing a bowler has become a running joke amongst cricket fans
