Why does GoI need to keep the french happy? They are neither russia( main defence exporter) nor US.
Why do you think EFT has better chance when it is made by a consortium and we have to operate for next 30 years.

There was no need to GoI to keep anyone happy. But then France has been and is a big defence equipment exported to India. If they become unhappy, they just might affect the spares for Mirages, Scorpene subs and Nuclear power plants. It is therefore in India's interest that they keep frenchies happy. And if we have the means to keep them happy then why not?

TYPHOON is only good for air combat.. and is very pricey

IAF have 270 su30mki for air combat THE IAF needs a very impressive strike platform and there is none better than rafale and making striking runs even in a high intensity EW and sam envionment. ITS stealthy and lethel and a magnificent combat proven platform
