What's new

RAC MiG boss eyes fifth-generation fighter

yup they are being overtly stupid wrt to pakda bomber.
total waste in my opinion.

and we too will suffer as r&d will be split between pakfa and pakda.

on a different note,,,,looking at mig-35 and pakfa.........its the beginning of the end of russian dominance in defence, they have no money to do r&d and in a decade or so will be far far behind even china
Its your opinion.

Russians don't have cash problems for research they just cant afford all of it at same time.

Russians have know how they will reach at par only question is timeline.

China has long way to go. Money power is giving them boost but they still have a lot of things to learn and make. Too early to say they will surpass Russia.

possible art of future MiG jet

Looks like highly modified F-35.

Mig made wonderful planes in the paste however now it is only its shadow and Sukohi is the leader in Russian aircraft industry. Two separate 5th gen plane projects are not possible. What is possible is that Sukohi and Mig work together to design single engine 5th gen plane using tech of T-50.

. .
Too late and will be too expensive ; unless they are eyeing an JV with a partner. It will be hard for them to pitch it to their own Govt over due to PAK-FA

It's just a poor try of Mig to remain with ANY relevance in the aero sector. They lost the crucial NG fighter development deal to Sukhoi, are highly dependent on Indian orders and funding to keep the production and developments going on, since not even Russian forces are buying the Mig 35 nor high number of Migs at all. So they have to make some PR, to keep them in at least in the mind of people.
Boeing actually is facing the same problem! They lost the NG fighter development to LM and the F35, the F15 is closing their production line soon, they are trying hard to get any additional F18SH order from the USN or trying to convince them, for a "6th gen" fighter development, next to the F35.
But in both cases, the governments have no interest in a new fighter development, since they don't have the money and they will focus on those NG fighters, that are currently under development.

Our navy uses them liberally. And they are damn good even today.

nope,,just stop gap
compare them to f-18 and rafale-m and now f-35 they are a piece of crap.............just cheaper, nothing else
not bad right now but 10 years down the line absolute junk

Looks like made of Trash Can, highly modified is laughable.

You're talking about a country that has been a pioneer in fighter technology for 85+ years.

Again with the looks obsession.....If looks could kill....

F-18 is just over-hyped. Tell me when did US fight someone equal in its capability the last time.

The only good thing about F-18 so far is its radar. Barring that, it is mince meat when faced with a MiG-35 which also fields a powerful AESA radar.

Rafale is not even tested in combat. Tell me one reason what makes you say it is superior to a beefed up MiG-35.

And F-35?

It is just a white elephant that no partner is interested to acquire. Two are backing out with a third one of the eight in referendum in the parliament.

It has become the burden to Lockheed Martin than the asset that it was supposed to be.

Mig is a perfect example how politics determine the fate of a defence majors.traditionally,Sukhoi always managed politicians better than Mig.some guys are poking fun at Migs, but until few decades ago,it was having near total domination in aerospace market in Russia and its allies.

they should concentrate on unmanned next gen platforms,as it'll be a great market within a decade.Sukhoi is yet to present any such platforms while Mig Skat is already near completion.they should make some next gen platforms like X-47 to get back its domination, atleast in unmanned UCAV field.

1)first of al mig-35 dosen't exist
2)zhuk-ae is a pussy weak aesa radar which again does not exist at the moment
3)irst of mig-35 is useless.............45 km range is a joke
4)engines are shitty and non fadec compared to rafale and have one third of the tbo of m-88
5)max takeoff weight is 1000 kg lower
6)looses badly in jamming capability,tv camera range
7)nothing comparable to spectra
8)bigger rcs due to straight ducts

it just is worse than rafale in every single parameter

mig-29 was never a good plane in multirole capacity,,,,good airsuperiority fighter sure.
mig always had weaker engines and radars than sukhoi,,,even irst and jammers ane better on sukhoi

and there is a reason russian air force has ordered lot of new su-30 but not mig-35....................because it sucks

Mig-29 was developed as an air superiority fighter to counter F-15 and F-16.as for weaker engines and all, remember Mig-25??don't know about comparable recent techs like IRST and Jammers.traditionally,Russia used mostly Ilyushin,Antonov or Tupolev as EW aircraft(heavy aircrafts).plus,I don't think all of these equipments are made by Sukhoi, but rather made by other state owned/private companies, like missiles and engines.

ols and pods are made by uomz(ural something).
thats not the issue here,,,mig just has weaker contractors or uses cheaper stuff to keep the price down.

maybe al-series engines are too big for mig??who knows.

but it does have bad ecm and radar.
u cannot call zhuk-me good by any stretch of imagination

Not politics, but financial reality. In the Soviet times, they could afford to have several fighter and aircraft makes, today they can't. The Flankers are simply selling (at least the once that we push in PR through use in IAF), the Migs are mainly because IN was forced to take the 29K with the Russian carrier, not because they wanted it.
Also, the Mig Skat was barely in design stage and all they have is a mock up, but development and fundings doesn't seem got through:

MiG did not receive a contract for the Skat UCAV, Korotkov stated, with Amosov adding, "forget about Skat, it was in the past. In the future it will be something different, even maybe with some difference in appearance

MiG CEO details latest on MiG-35, Skat programmes - Paris Air Show 2013 | IHS Jane's

That might be one of the reason why they are trying to push PR now, to another fighter project.
