Iran directly involved in the attack on Kirkuk?

Shia militia Hashd al-Shaabi is leading the attack on Kirkuk. It takes its order from Tehran. However, it is alleged that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards are directly involved in the attack.

On Sunday night, the Iraqi government spokesman went on television and said that the famous / infamous leader of the Iranian al-Quds force, General Suleimani, is in place outside Kirkuk as an adviser.

The spokesperson of the Iraqi government says Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran's Quds Force, is a "military advisor" to the Hashd al-Shaabi forces in Iraq.

Speaking to Rudaw TV on Sunday night, Saad Hadithi, the spokesperson of the Iraqi government said that Soleimani plays a role in Iraq as "military advisor" to the Shiite Hashd al-Shaabi as there are Iranians and Americans existing in Iraq as well.

It's an incredible statement. Does Baghdad have control over what they do? Soleimani is one of America's biggest enemies. To broadcast that he is present at Kirkuk is the same as giving the United States the finger.

The Hashd al-Shaabi militia uses American Abrahams tanks that were given to the Iraqi government army. The Americans have repeatedly experienced that heavier weapons given to the government army have ended at Shia militia that goes to Teheran's errand. In addition, if the Iranians were to be directly involved in the attack against Kirkuk, this is a challenge to US power that Trump can not overlook.

One of those who point to Iran's hand is US Former Ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalizad.

Zalmay Khalilzad, a former US Ambassador to Iraq, said in a series of tweets Monday morning that Iran's "IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps) -backed militia led by terrorist Mahdi Mohandis has begun an assault on Kirkuk," Khalilzad said, making reference to the deputy head of the mainly Shiite Hashd al-Shaabi.

"Reliable reports indicate the PMF [Hashd] militia is using Abram's tanks provided by the US to the Iraqi forces against the Peshmerga," Khalilzad continued, as he tagged the official account of the US presidency asking "Should we not disable these tanks to prevent their use by Quds force proxies? "

Kurdish intelligence claims that Iranian revolutionary guards is present and participates in the attack at Kirkuk.

Peshmerga intelligence shows beyond the doubt that Iranian Revolutionary Guards were among the ranks of the Iraqi army and the Hashd al-Shaabi stationed south and west of Kirkuk.

"The Iraqi army and the Hashd al-Shaabi are not the only states that attack us. We have intelligence with 100 percent accuracy that there are also the Iranian army and the Revolutionary Guards among them, "Shwan Shamerani, commander of the Peshmerga second brigade in Kirkuk, told Rudaw on Saturday.

Khalilzad urged the United States to support the Kurds against Iranian Revolutionary Guards

The Americans have such a strong presence on the ground and in the air that it will not be difficult to confirm whether the Iranians participate. It already knows the United States. If it is correct, the United States must do something.

The attitude of the Hash al-Shaabi militia says a lot: One of their comrades compares Kurdish peshmerga with IS:

Karim Nuri, a commander of the Hashd al-Shaabi, told Rudaw that any force that may be fighting against the Iraqi forces is "the same as ISIS," whose leaders are like Abu Bakir al-Baghdadi, the leader of the ISIS militants.

It is this sectarian attitude that has caused the Shia militia to create greater enmity where it has entered into "liberate" Iraqi territory.

There is no sign of any Iranian involvement. It is purely an Iraqi initiative to regain Iraqi land that was stolen illegally by Kurdish terrorists. The photo is old too and was not taken in Kirkuk. The one that he is embracing is a well-known Iraqi traitor (Hadi al-Amiri who shamelessly fought against his country and countrymen during the Iraq-Iran war) whose group in the PMU has been sidelined. The few other pro-Iranian Mullah groups in the PMU have been marginalized as well and most importantly they are heavily outnumbered by groups whose leaders (Al-Sadr for instance) are Iraqi nationalists and critical of Iranian influence in Iraq.

PMU is not playing the leading role here either. It is the Iraqi army.

Rudaw is Kurdish propaganda as well which is only interested in turning Al-Abadi (a president who has restored ties with all Arab countries around him and who openly talks about Iraq returning to the "Arab fold" politically) into an Iranian puppet in order to gain US support and in order to try and rally a few confused Iraqi Sunni Arabs on their side which won't happen.

Failed tactic and propaganda attempt. Similar to the nonsense of "Iran saved 15 million big Baghdad". This nonsense must be countered whenever it shows its ugly face.

op, That is an old photo, stop spreading fake news, your using Kurdish propaganda sources, the same sources that make fake or exaggerated claims against Turkish soldiers.

Dont shoot the messenger, I have no Idea whats going on and posted what I found

According to journalist Fazel Hawramy, PMU leaders Hadi Amiri and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis went to Kirkuk on October 15 to negotiate. Both Amiri and al-Muhandis worked with the Iranian IRGC in the 1980s against Saddam Hussein’s regime and remain close to its leadership. Not by coincidence, Iranian Maj.-Gen. Qassem Soleimani arrived in Kurdistan on October 15th, according to Reuters. Soleimani is the commander of the Quds Force of the IRGC, the organization responsible for external operations of the IRGC.

The role of two senior PMU commanders and Soleimani from Iran indicate the battle for Kirkuk has been outsourced by Iraq to Tehran. It is also evidence of the overall inability of Abadi to control the Shi’a militias that, since 2016, have been officially part of the Iraqi Security Forces. This runs counter to US support for a unified and stable Iraq.
