The zulfiqar programs as dead as a door nail and has been for years. The karrar on the other hand.....

Zoalfaqar was dead because of engine . And I still don't knew of any domestic engine . so there is only two option .
1-we get engine for it from foreign sources.
2. Again it'll be dead as a door nail.

You both talking about tanks right?

your answer for Karrar project is this :

so , Karrar will face same fate ... although Karrar is just an upgrade for old T72 ...

We can't produce suitable Dissel engine for MBT , so how can we produce Jet engine for Fighter ( and claimed 5th Gen fighter )

Well yes ,I yet to see any tank engine unveiling.

Jet engine and tank engine are different and you produce anything you invest in .

when we can't make good alloys which endure higher temperature and stress for MBT engine ( which are more compact than usual civil disel engine ) , then how can we produce higher quality alloy for jet engines !?

Can iran use Russian or Chinese engines? Their is no need to develop a new engine for this project.

You can't use the alloy you use in jet engines in tank engine . these two engine have two complete different set of requirement .

Zolfigar tank was dead because of engine? Is there any proof of this? The Zolfigar tank could have used the T-72 engine.

The reason Zolfigar tank project is dead is because IT WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

There are not a lot of countries that make their own unique proven battle tank design.

So for Iran to green light Zolfigar, it needed to demonstrate a clear improvement over their already existing T-72’s.

Tanks are expected to stay in service for 20+ years. The Zolfigar was an obsolete tank by today’s standards. It lacked Active protection system, it used human gunners, it lacked proper armour and advanced tank munitions, list goes on.

So why would Iran green light this project? It was an army project that couldn’t build on the technologies of a next gen tank project.

IRGC tested the T-90 tank in Syria and was impressed by it. T-90 is a proven tank design over Zolfigar that has seen no battlefield testing other than propaganda videos and military parades. Thus a T-90 upgrade program was a safe choice.

Karrar could possibly be a limited ToT sharing between Russia and Iran where it incorporates technology from T-90 to some extent. It is intresting that Karrar emerged shortly after T-90 talks were brought up by iranian military officials.

Furthermore, unless Iran’s military envisions being in a land war in the near future. It still has time to develop a next generation tank.

very simple Zolfaqar 2 used a reactive Armor and a 105mm canon and was about 45t then in Zoalfaqar 3 we claimed a 125mm canon and upgrading the Armor to some sort of layered one both of these are enough to send the weight of tank up to 60t but iran used the same engine on both an engine likely designed for t72 or no engine at all

the exhaust is so clean that you wonder if the engine ever turned on?

It was evident several years ago it was a dead project that didn’t gain traction/proper funding. I am sure the issue was much bigger than engine related.

The tank was simply not good enough at its “Z-3” stage. The fact that the tank didn’t even see action during the Syrian conflict was another nail in the coffin. If the military brass wanted they could have sent 5-7 Z3 tank prototypes to Iraq militias or Syrian militias to see how it performs in war. Yet Iran instead opted to see how T-90 performs.

That doesn’t mean Iran has given up on creating a new domestic tank. There is indications that Iran is working on DU (depleted uranium) armour and tank munitions. It has worked on active protection systems, laser jammers, etc. These are the basic technologies a next gen tank should incorporate.

Furthermore, ability to recieve video data link with friendly UAVs to allow tank commanders to see the battlefield around them is also critical in tank survivability.

Let's see if people are going to laugh at this as much as they laughed at Q-313? I'd say the quality of Q-313 mockup was much better than this one. And by the way it is not going to be operational before 2035! By that standard, I think Q-313 has had good progress.
