Putting Ra'ad CM on our warships

Ra'ad II has a range of 600KM. Its fairly small, and won't take up too much deck space. We can place three ABL of 4 missile each, forward, aft and amidships. It will admittedly need a rocket booster to get it to launch speed, but thats manageable. Its stealthy, has a small RCS, a 450kg warhead. Any thing up to a Kolkata class will be toast and its at worst a mission kill for their carriers.
Also gives a land attack capability.

You add significant lethality to your surface fleet and don't need to invest in much additional training and industrial infrastructure.

Raad 2 is ALCM.

What you have suggested is already present in Navy by the name of Harbah and Babur Cruise missiles.

Raad 2 will also come to play when M3/5 will target indian warships from air.

We can just add seeker of Harbah in Raad 2 and now it will have anti ship capability also.
good idea, but...... easier said than done. "adding a seeker" is not child's play, the entire housing, signal processing, data acquisition etc modules will have to be changed

IIRC Ra'ad can be used in both land attack and anti ship mode.

well, if that is the case, then that is good.

I was talking about adding an entirely new functionality to the missile, though.

Notwithstanding the aerodynamics issue of surface-launching the Ra'ad, I think a lot of its range benefit comes from when it's air launched. So, if we want to retain that range via surface launch, we'd need a rocket to take the Ra'ad up to its optimal altitude. That will add to its overall size.

tbh the real solution is to continue advancing our LACM tech as a whole. SPD should continue investing in flight control tech, fuel management, the fuel itself, materials, etc. This way, we'd eventually get to a point where a missile as big as Babur would have a range of 1,000 km or even 1,500 km. You could potentially use this tech stack to create smaller, but very effective, cruise missiles similar to SPEAR, JSM, etc.

One only needs to wonder why the slightly bigger Babur get's roughly the same range as the slightly smaller Ra'ad. The answer is highlighted above. Furthermore, as pointed out here

To add to the above point, Babur was cannesterized very early on its development, which makes it especially suited to mounting on ships and submarines.

So what you are in effect suggesting is modifying the Ra'ad to be a Babur, even though we already have a well-developed Babur for anti-shipping role already.

200% yes. Our capabilities aren't limited by the lack of imagination of making Ra'ad ground launched or Babur air-launched. Our capabilities are limited by the technological inputs that go into BOTH Ra'ad and Babur. All of the above will make both Ra'ad and Babur reach out more.

There is also the often ignored issue of tracking and targeting. Can we really track and target to the ranges that we want our missiles to fly to? That capability is not cheap or simple and would need to achieved in parallel for any increase in range to make sense.

In the absence of very long range tracking/targeting I would expect an improvement in core technologies to lead to a reduction in size/weight of Ra'ad and Babur. This will be worth something, especially for Ra'ad.

the issue here is that USN has a vast array of surveillance, sensors, electronics, jamming, detection and tracking capability's

its not about a single aircraft carrying one long range anti ship missiles getting lucky

it has to be planned and organised

there is a system in place a whole array of systems

I am not saying PN cannot do this but it is certainly a tall order

having AKG-400 on JF17 Block III should be enough
