Russian President Vladimir Putin: You know there are things of an absolutely fundamental nature such as our common culture. Major European political figures have talked in the recent past about the need to expand relations between Europe and Russia, saying that Russia is part of Europe. Geographically and, most importantly, culturally, we are one civilisation. French leaders have spoken of the need to create a single space from Lisbon to the Urals. I believe, and I mentioned this, why the Urals? To Vladivostok. ...

He is absolutely right!

. .
So putin sees the asians living in the asian part of russia as subjugated cultures?
You can say Russia has European culture with some non-European regions.

hmm.. why is Putin trying to ingratiate russia to westerners like that. I mean he is not letting some state secrets out and russia is not an unknown entity to europeans.

I do not think he is trying to ingratiate russia to westerners. I think he wants to remind them some facts. In our days Western Europe need to seek Russia's goodwill, not vice versa. Because Western Europe without Russia has around zero military potential.

The Europe he speaks of is long gone. It's been replaced by a liberal woke culture that is at total odds with Russian culture.
Poland and a few others now hold out, but not for long.

Well, may be this liberal trend will go down and Europe will turn to the roots. Otherwise it is doomed.

Well, from my perspective and I have said this many time, @vostok might recall, that Russia is European. Having met some Russians in real life they appeared to be closer to English then say Italians or Spanish. A Russian, Englishman, German, Dane are almost indistinguishable from every aspect. Cultural, genetically, historically and as a civilization.

However let there be no question about the fact that vast regions of Russia are conquered and vanguished Asiatic peoples. Be they Muslim Dagestani, Muslim Tatars, Muslim Chechens or the native peoples of Siberia. You can't sling this thing both ways. Say Russia is Europe but then shout out about Grozny or Vladisvostok as Putin did and claim they are also Europe. No they are not and only to the extent that they are beaten, conquered Asiatic lands and peoples. All of Caucasus historically was never Europe. Only after Russian conquest was it brought under Moscows orbit and even then we saw what happened in late 1990s in Chechnia.

I find it bizzare that many East Europeans look aghast at migrants from Asia in Western Europe and cry "end of Western Civilization" but ignore the masssive regions of Asia extending across Siberia, to Caucasus to Central Asia that were invaded and natives genocided with massive European migrants colonizing the lands. Or being forcefully face cuyltural or religious genocide.

With shrinking population and a economy heavily dependant on oil and gas Russia's future is either as backyard of Europe or a Chinese vassal state providing tall women to rich Chinese men.

Well, you know I can't bul*shit whether it;s from Indians, Muslims, Arabs, Americans or Russians or even the fcukin Germans who after having killed more human beings than all the wars in last 1000 years a well as nearly wiping out Jews today act like butter would not melt in their mouth when the same mouth is fouling off about "Muslim invasion". Fcukin the galls of them to use the word "invasion".

And @vostok I have seen your 'freezer' way back in 1989 when it had that red flag fluttering. I did a tour of Moscow in July 1989. I have been to Kazakstan, Alma Aty which is barely 500 miles north of Islamabad. Kazakstan was flooded with Russians and other Euros. It's okay for a Ruski to roll about in Alma Aty but if they see a Muslim in Altrincham they think it's end of Western civilization.

Damn @Indus Pakistan was touring the USSR before Bald and Bankrupt and You Tube even existed but in terms of the Chinese regions near Russia they been depopulating since the early 90s thay are just as rustic as the Russian Far East during the 1950s when Soviet and Chinese relations were at their prime the NorthEast was developed into major indusrtial center and were more developed than the rest of China but since the 1970s and 1980s when Deng opened up the economy the Chinese NorthEast has become a rust belt more Northerners migrate to more richer South now

I have to jealously agree with you. I saw that close up as a young man in 1989.
Russia is moving to be more powerful than USSR was.
Maybe. I can tell you though that in UK the media reporting is at almost fever pitch with regards to Russia. Reminds me how it was like in the 1980s during Cold War. BBC is just lashing out at Moscow.
