Putin acknowledges Pakistans efforts against terrorism
NEW DELHI, March 12 (APP) The visiting Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Friday acknowledged that Pakistan had taken actions against terror outfits in the last few months.Participating in a video conference here with Indian businessmen from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore, Putin said we hope addressing the problem (of terror groups) will be in the best interest of Pakistan. We need to support those efforts, he said. However, he said lets be realistic... Pakistan has taken action against those outfits in the last few months.
As far as terror groups in Afghanistan and Pakistan are concerned, it is a matter of worry for the entire region and in fact, the whole world, Putin said.
Putin said India and Russia were concerned over terror activities and were strategic partners in the fight against terror.
Our (India and Russia) cooperation is in construction and building of nuclear reactors, supply of nuclear fuel and India has expressed interest for help in disposal of nuclear waste, Putin said.
Russia is expected to build 12 to 14 new nuclear reactors in India.
In his statement to media on Putins visit to India, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said he had held detailed discussion with Russian leader on regional and global issues.
There is much that India and Russia can do together to advance global peace and stability and the process of global economic revival. We have agreed to intensify our consultations on Afghanistan and the challenges posed by terrorism and extremism in our region, he said.
Singh said India and Russia had finalised several important and long pending defence cooperation projects which would deepen our longstanding partnership in this vital sector.
We have signed the Inter-Governmental Agreement on Cooperation in Atomic Energy and agreed upon a Roadmap for construction of nuclear power plants. A Memorandum of Understanding for bilateral cooperation in Russias satellite navigation system has been agreed upon, he said.
