No.... what we need is reforms in general...... and ..... de-pol of sindh and panjab police.

We are not talking about their will to curtail crime man, that needs refroms n de politicization, we are talking about their ability to do so n that needs major overhaul n investment..

You have your priorities right and I respect that. I believe we need to chop PN by half and even reduce our army size by 10%. We need however to beef up nuclear strike force. Money saved goes on internal security.

No country earth now can threaten Pakistan. However our weakness is internal. Soviet Union fell apart despite having more tanks, more guns, more planes then we can dream. It fell apart because of internal weakness. And that today is Pakistan's Achilles heel. India knows this. Think Balochistan. Think Karachi. Think RAW.

I agree but not at the cost of cutting funds to our armed forces, defence budget needed to be bolstered as of tomorow, more n more funds can be found to spend on internal security by reducing corruption n avoiding useless white elephant projects like orange line metro, its the civilian sector that needs to get its ducks in a row rather than reducing funding to the military, moreover nuclear is a last resort which means self destruction guarenteed, conventional forces need to be bolstered up for low intensity, high penetration conventional conflicts where niether side would risk a nuclear exchange...i know we Pakistanis bash up indians a lot on their cold start doctrine but its a pretty solid plan on their part....

There are two aspect to internal security/law and order that need resolving. First the political manipulation. Second the resource contraints. The first one can't be easily resolved but will come through maturity although of course work needs to begin now to adress the issue.

However we need to ask why we need a large PN capability. Wars Pakistan has had with India have been short shrift affairs. In no war has played any pivotal role to the outcome of the war. Today with nuclear capability at play wars are going to be even shorter. Assume India blocked off Arabian Sea and Pakistan was choked. How long do you think would it be before we would reach "first nuclear strike" scenario? Any situation that might pose existential threat would trigger nuclear first strike. Therefore the size of PN would be irrelevant.

Pakistan now needs to just focus on nuclear forces to offer it protection from external threats. Then save as mucxh money and sort out the biggest weakness in Pakistan which is lack of internal security.

Militarization of the Police while disarming civilians, as we recently saw with laws curbing gun ownership. When I go to Pakistan, I am packing. I don't trust the Police, or even Sindh Rangers. Both corrupt AF. I'd rather trust my close relatives moderately armed than either of these two I listed.

Make the police more community friendly, improve intelligence, operational capacity and logistics. You would have won half the battle without the need for bloody assault rifles.

You know I see regularly women officers patroling my neck of the woods. No guns at all.

Our former Socialist mayor decided to disarm our municipal Police. (He now regretted his decision)

They were left barely patrolling with a pepper spray and a baton. Our new mayor (from the right) decided to re-arm them for their safety. That is despite crimes in the area being relatively low. (However you can't know on what situation you'll be confronted to)

That made them feel more confident in their work and til date,no shots were ever fired. They said that it was a good deterrent in many situations they are/were confronted to. That also allows them to be less reliant on the national police which can be freed to others emergencies.

Sherriffs or PDs,it doesn't matter. In the vast majority of cases,officers patrol alone,there are lot of reasons for it,like economics and staff management.

It's very simple. Many departments/sheriffs cannot afford to pair officers or simply because having officers patrolling alone,allows to cover more areas and make more officers available to other emergencies. Many situations can be solved by a single officer. Of course backup can be called when needed.

Policing is totally different in our countries. The situations and ways of doing are very different too.

Few days ago our home minister was in the UK to learn more about the police work.

A shotgun is a close quater weapon and most of them have a single shotgun to a pair in every petrol vehicle...i dont knw about assaullt rifles but they are rare not like Pakistan where every second police man is seen holding a legacy assault rifle...the difference betweeon policing and armed forces escapes Pakistan's civil administration...

And rightly so Police is not health service provider they are their to fight criminals in fact in normal situations mostly Police see and fight more than Army. So Police should have Assault Rifles and Police is already using AK so just replace them with new better Assault Rifles. Also create Police SWAT units based on SSG and also units based on Army LCB.

Reforms I want to see are

every regular Policeman should be equipped 5.56 Caliber Assault Rifle with latest optics and good hand Guns and at least 4 extra magazines each. Also BP vest and should do a 6 week Anti Terror course at Pabbi secondly every Province needs to raise two Special Forces one SWAT which should be trained exactly like SSG for example in future if Punjab has 400000 PoliceMan, there should be at least 8000 SWAT among them, Than another Special Force unit should be like LCB of Army which should have the training which our Light Commandos of Army get. Finally IB and FIA and Special Branch of each province needs to be better trained and equipped specially they need to develop cyber wings and Forensic Labs.

What a waste of money. I wonder how much money has been earmarked for commission for Shahbaz Sharif? Such a waste of money. This boils my blood how money is being wasted here.

Punjab Police is at best a militant armed wing of PML-N. Every MNA, MPA or Minister is interested in having his own SHO's in their local constituency, so they can make sure they control the police stations. Unless this filth is never fixed, no amount of M4's will fix this force.

He knows nothing is going to happen to him. More than half that mithai money will probably go to his higher ups so who's he got to fear.

Of course most of the money goes up in police ranks. We only see lower ranks, because they are collectors.
