Punjab Police Raid to Arrest Young Doctors

I agree with the demands of the doctors, well some of them (i.e a service structure, promotion system etc), but ths is no way to keep on abandoning people.

YDA forced the doctors to get out of the hospital, and the doctors complied, in fear of their life.

please note, that i am not supporting government either, their methods are not thr right ones, the ego of Shahbaz Sharif, well...it's no secret the failures of the N-league government.

the longer the demands are not met , the greater the use of force ---- gradually it would increase the strength of yda and relactant / neutral docters would see no other way to safegaurd their future but to join this revolution so as to get a combined service structure and proper promotion and induction keeping in view their 18 years study background and extremely high job hours employed --- just like when power was given to media and lawyers -- you saw chaos after some time so much so that musharaff had to leave

docters are one of the most intelligent and wise people of pakistan --- most of them will never follow a politically motivated struggle -- the reason why they have joined in the struggle is out there to see for all , granted you are not narrow minded or only think news channels honestly air docters' side of the story

Why are the doctors out on the streets?
http://dawn.com/2012/07/01/why-are-the-doctors-out-on-the-streets/
the share of budget allocated for health purposes is less than two per cent of the total budget
After one year and multiple committees, no solution has been finalised by the government of Punjab. As a result, the young doctors started boycotting the Outdoor Patient Departments (OPDs). It should be made clear that the indoor departments and emergencies (where serious and admitted patients are dealt with) are working full time in all public sector hospitals. The propaganda that patients are ‘dying’ is plainly wrong. The main problem this time is the demand for a service structure, similar to other public servants. A civil servant who passes the CSS exam gets promoted to the next pay scale in a maximum period of 10 years, while doctors do not have this opportunity. I have personally seen doctors who have served for more than 18 years and still remain in the same pay scale. Despite the order by Supreme Court of Pakistan in February 2012, no concrete steps have been taken to formulate a service structure.

At the hospital I work, patients are re-directed from OPDs to the emergency department where most of them are treated accordingly. There is no particular crisis as has been portrayed by the government. Recently, a misinformed campaign has been launched by the erstwhile Punjab government portraying doctors as ‘mercenaries’. I wish the amount of money paid for those front page advertisements was allocated for the package of doctors, but as it turns out, wishes are not horses. Sadly, the electronic media has largely played a negative role in this whole issue and they have tried to establish the establishment’s point of view in various talk shows and programs. After the leaked video scandal, we all know about the ‘integrity’ of our dear media personnel. The same media that tries to strike a rebellious stance in different matters, turns into the devil’s advocate in this one.

Orders have been issued by the health department that leaves of all doctors are being cancelled and anyone who does not perform their duties will be arrested. Doctors from the Army Medical Corps are also being deployed at government hospitals. This heavy handedness and constant negligent behaviour will serve the public no good. According to sources in the Young Doctors Association, the government is planning to privatize the health sector and that is why they are reluctant to reach a solution with the doctors. Mr. Shahbaz Sharif is not willing to decrease the number of his protocol cars or to spend some of the public money on public servants but is happy dishing out money on useless projects such as the Laptop Scheme (Punjab’s Over Draft limit was Rs.27 billion and the Punjab government spent almost 40 per cent of the OD sanctioned by the State Bank of Pakistan to Punjab on giving away laptops), the Muslim Town overhead bridge or the Sasti Roti scheme (authorities in Punjab scrapped the Sasti Roti scheme after the Rs.7.85 billion loan debt accrued from commercial banks was left unpaid by the food department owing to non-provision of funds earmarked in the financial years 2009-10 and 2010-11) or his own publicity (an amount of Rs.80 million was spent just on the publicity campaign initiated under the Khadim-e-Ala government). According to the government figures from 2005, it spends 5 lacs on a single medical student in five years. Two days ago, a ‘senior official’ in the Punjab Health Department cited the figure of 2 million. Another juxtaposition of facts to suit their stance.

Matters are getting worse and worse. Thousands of doctors have left Pakistan because of lack of facilities and money. Eight out of 10 new doctors want to leave the country and pursue greener pastures because of the behaviour of government towards the health sector. Something needs to be done and it has to be done fast because young doctors cannot be coerced or tamed by using power tactics. The only people that are actually suffering in this fight are the poor patients who cannot afford private health care and have no option but to depend on government hospitals for treatment. An early resolution of this mess will benefit those poor patients and they should be the priority of both the government and the young doctors.

Why on earth one would believe the media reports after their true faces became apparent in the form of mubasshir luqman and many others haram khor....
you spend tough 6 & half years just for ur bachelor degree and after that you are getting the incentives of a chapraasi...is this sane????

If the doctors want to leave, the question as Gilani put it is ' Who is stopping them'?

Nobody forced them to come into this profession, they knew all the pros and cons.

Note: this does not mean that they be denied a proper service structure. But why is this card constantly being put up that they are wanting to go and people leave the country etc etc.

i just forgive them this time and let them work
No one is apologizing to you or to any of the foul mouthed ignorants here & out there on streets & in media.

In fact it's the doctors who forgive ppl for all the ignorant rants that ppl have been throwing-up & still treat you in hospitals & clinics.

Next time ignorant knuckle-heads like journalists come for treatment, doctors should simply tell them to go to hell & treat themselves... & leave them in emergencies to suffer in pain... & bolt on them in O.T, cut open...

Medicine is a means to earn livelihood like any other profession,,, doctors are NOT volunteers offering free services while sacrificing their sleep during 24 hr long shifts & staying for the whole weeks inside hospitals... & performing one of the toughest jobs of all...

& to those jack-behinds who spewed venom against doctors here, these protests were NOT about salary raise,, these were to put down a well defined structured system like that for CSS guys... do some research before opening ur foul mouth...

wow my wife is a doctor and she teaches at a govt medical college and her pay is not even close to their salary structure, still they are whinning?
with due respect,
your wife does not go to opd/er/wards [most probably not a trainee in any specialization]-- does not have 36 hour duties.. rather an 8-2 teaching job which gives a 30,000 pay ---- still better than 50% of the docs doing job without pay and 100% of the docs without a service structure or any perk whatsoever

The salient features of the press conference are as follows:

Young doctors will call off 'emergency' strike only tomorrow after each one of arrested doctors is released and they reach their homes and confirmed by General council YDA.

All charges against Doctors, including 302 case, is taken back.

STRIKE IN OUT PATIENT DEPARTMENT, OPERATION THEATER AND INDOOR WILL CONTINUE TILL SERVICE STRUCTURE IS GIVEN!

Only Emergency services will resume tomorrow after decision by YDA General council

and Zalim-e-alla shahbaz thekedar is still not negotiating-- pharoon ki ulad --

arrest the crooks, tax evaders in Islamabad and elsewhere

as usual, their priorities are mixed up

in the plastic sergery unit , where i was doing fellowship , we had 1 paid pg seat , 1 sr seat , one assist.prof and 1 assoc prof seat ---- and they were required to do 3 opd and 3 ot days per week as well as there evening followup and morning ward rounds --[10 cases/ot day] ------- if it wasnt for the 20 pg trainees doing work for free , no mai ka lal couldve done this unprecedented work load

do you know , a person can get tb from respiratory droplets from a tb patient if the doc breathes in a 14 feet radius around the patient? docs are continously exposed to tb , hepatitis , radiation etc and they dont have a service structure which cushions the treatement costs of these health hazards

i was reading in the other thread if docs in pak invented anything like chips -- has anyone invented the human body? do you know 90% of the first line and 75% of the second line drugs for the 50 most prevelant and deadly diseases are not present in pakistan -- atleast not in gov settings , thanks to the gov--- the ways these docs have invented different drug combinations by using some drug's side effects with another drug's direct effects to yield a treatement for all these cases is extremely impressive to saythe least

however in some cases the problem is so terminal , as most patients come to teriary hospitals only when they are terminal --- these desi combinations cant save the life of that patient--- docs pay for the international drugs themselve --- if they inform the patient to buy the drug [ which is their duty to tell the patient of the ground reality ] , these illiterate patients instead of buying the drug , go to the media and say docs have stopped treating them -- and this is the headline you get on tv

it is the duty of the gov to provide first line medicines and appropriate number of docter seats [plus their pay + perks] based on service hours and study years ----- docters and drugs cant walk to the patients on there own , without any meaningfull financial input by the gov ------- the health budget is 2% for fk sake , what do you expect?

Docs closed the OPD's.

Shahbaz Sharif closed the Emergencies.

thats my take on it.
