Punjab government has decided to make amendment in Punjab Quality Meat and Slaughter Regulation Act 2013 to ensure provision of quality, healthy and hygienic meat to the consumers, registration of slaughter houses and bringing them in to legal net.
"New amendment bill will soon be tabled in the provincial assembly for this purpose". This was disclosed at a meeting of the cabinet business committee, which was presided over by Punjab Minister for Food and Chairman Price Control Committee Punjab Bilal Yaseen here on Wednesday.
The meeting was also attended by Provincial Minister for Labour and Human Resource Ashfaq Sarwar, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Punjab on Livestock Arshad Jutt, Secretary and Additional Secretary Livestock. The meeting was informed that the amendment had been recommended by the Livestock department with regard to fines and punishment under 2013 Act. Those who would be selling meat without stamp from the authority concerned might be awarded one month imprisonment or Rs 50,000 fine or both.
Similarly punishments have also been recommended for selling unhygienic meat, which included three months imprisonment or 500,000 fine or both.
Those who are selling chicken meat without registration would have an imprisonment of one-year or Rs 500,000 fine or both while poultry farms selling chickens without registration would also have to face an imprisonment of six months of Rs 500,000 fine. Addressing the meeting, Punjab Minister for Food Bilal Yaseen said that these steps will ensure provision of quality and hygienic meat to the masses.
