An encounter between security forces and terrorists began late on Sunday evening in Samboora in Kashmir's Pulwama district. Three militants were trapped in cordon.
One terrorist, known as Umer of the Abu Ismail group, was killed. Role of Umer in different crimes committed by Abu Ismail group is being ascertained. One AK-47 rifle has been recovered from the encounter site. Awantipora Police, 50 RR and CRPF jointly participated in the encounter.
Two other terrorists managed to escape in injured condition.
"Following a tip off about the presence of some suspected militants, a joint team of Army's 50 RR (Rashtriya Rifles), SOG (Special Operations Group) and CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) launched a cordon-and-search operation at Akram Dar Mohalla, Samboora, Pulwama", official sources told India Today.
As the joint team intensified the search operation, the militants opened fire, triggering an encounter.
Top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Ayub Lelhari was believed to be trapped with his men.
It is the seventh encounter between security forces and militants in valley in a week. Internet services have been blocked across Pulwama district
