What's new

PTV World English Channel in HD to be made Regional/Gobal Player, like Press Tv, RT, BBC, CNN

For starters, drop the "PTV" branding. Second, keep the new channel seperate from PTV. Al-Jazeera and Russia Today are targetted entirely at international audiences. They don't operate domestially. Otherwise, the editorial guidlines will become controversial at home like BBC.

  • English
  • Pashto
  • Arabic
  • Mandarin
  • Spanish
  • Persian

Don't get ahead of yourselves. Start with English first.

Where did I say start everything at once? I'm only suggesting a different order:
  • English
  • Pashto
  • Arabic
  • Mandarin
  • Spanish
  • Persian
We already have Pashto speaking anchorperson, correspondents, etc. Above all, we understand our audience well. With Arabic speaking audience, we have none of the above which means a higher budget.

I see only two journalists in Pakistan who are even remotely capable of being part of such a channel

They'll find a few more, provided they make an earnest effort to find such journalists, especially among the Pakistani dual-national and expatriate communities.

I hope along the lines of TRT, RT and Al Jazeera, the proposed PTV English channel also conducts short but very informative documentaries. I often spend hours going through Al Jazeera's youtube page just watching their documentaries.

I hope PTV regional channel shows the world the cultured, decent manner in which we usually make conversations.

If foreigners see our private media they will be aghast at reflection of our society. Private channels are rowdy, combative, hoarse, too much non serious color flashes, cheap songs, flashy images. You name each and every abuse of visuals and you have it in abundance in private media.

I remember our TV of 70s and 80s was much more progressive, cultured, well researched. The way Urdu was spoken in TV serials or on shows was the way we spoke at home. It was educational TV as well as entertainment with great drama themes and hilarious comedy, not a slap stick, cheap theatre style comedy that prevails now.

I hope PTV Regional channel reflects our culture in that subtle, unassuming and mature manner.

Hit the nail on the head.

Somebody ban those ridiclious morning shows. A sore to the eyes so early in the morning.

PTV should simply buy out BOL TV and take the infrastructure as is
The technology being used in BOL TV broadcasting is quite ahead of rest in Pakistan
