Pakistan got their bilateral loans deferred due to a U.S. scheme to destroy BRI/CPEC.


And even with all of those freebies, Imran Khan still ran a worse current account deficit than Nawaz Sharif who built everything that Pakistan ever had (outside of military dictatorships).

Look at India for example
2- everything was expensive in COVID except oil for brief time and then was way expensive in the aftermath


The only two possibilities that Pakistan did well while regional countries did worse with similar demographics was
1- black magic or
2- Imran Khan strategy of not closing down the economy, doing targeted lockdowns/contact tracing and rolling out a large bailout for economy (that subsequently contributed to inflation)

Now obviously imran Khan can't be competent as shahbaz sharif is the only person who is competent in Pakistan : the other possibility is back magic

Pakistan was economically in worse shape than its peers pre Covid and came out much better due to its covid policy and execution.
