Of all my hates about Pakistan that annoys me everytime I go there lack of pavements is amongst top of the list. Everytime I go to Pakistan it has improved. Last year I really enjoyed myself and this year I had booked to go this March and then the red list thing happened.
Even most of Islamabad or Lahore do not have pavements. No pavement is the default. It annoys me for three reasons. First it ignores the pedestrian and places them in the same flow as vehicular traffic thus creating danger. This also impedes vehicular progress when you get throngs of people just chilling on the road. Second lack of clear 'line' of the road on both sides does not help orientation as your driving which often because of lack of road markings makes this worse. Thirdly it just gives a picture of untidy disorder and encourages people just to parl anywhere or spill on to the road.
Another of my hates is animals left to intrude on to the highway posing danger and being a right annoying nuisence.
Sometimes it really seems them miss the quick wins when it comes to making towns and cities look nice.
1. Pavements
2. Drains along roads
3. Street lighting
4. Public bins
5. Whitewashing walls
6. Tidying up electrical cables
7. Flowers/shrubs/trees
They'd transform the look of the country.
The world is full of poor places they don't have to look bad.
