Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairperson Imran Khan on Thursday warned that if Pakistan defaults, it will have to "compromise on its national security" the next time the government approaches foreign lenders for aid.

Recalling that the country's default risk was a "mere 5pc" when he was in power earlier this year, Imran said the incumbent government has "devastated the economy".

He further said all steps being taken by the current government, including bringing changes to the Army Act, are to ensure that the incumbent leaders can safeguard their "looted wealth".


He further said that there was a chance that the current leaders would flee the country "once again" and they are "doing this all for themselves, not the country or its people".

Reiterating his call for free and fair elections, Imran maintained it was the only way forward for the country. "PTI won 70 per cent of the elections despite the fact that the establishment was supporting them," said the former premier.

He also claimed that the aim is to "eliminate Imran Khan".

The PTI chairperson also said this "was a defining moment" in the history of the country and "when the nation stands up, they are unstoppable".

'PTI will hold largest ever gathering in Pindi'

PTI Secretary General Asad Umar on Thursday said the party will hold the "largest ever" political gathering in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Friday said he will announce the arrival date of the party's long march in Rawalpindi tomorrow (Saturday) as the former premier addressed the march's participants via video link.

After suffering a bullet wound to the leg in an attempted assassination bid, the former premier said he will rejoin the party's 'Haqeeqi Azadi' march once it enters the garrison city of Rawalpindi.
The party chief said he will be consulting his doctors tomorrow, adding that he will set a date for the long march's arrival in Islamabad accordingly.

Taking a dig at rival party supremo Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan questioned how a person like him could be permitted to decide when the election will be held and who the next chief of army staff should be.

“The person whose children are sitting in Britain,” said Imran, “how can he decide for Pakistan?”
“General Asif Nawaz’s brother has written in his book that in 1992 when he [Nawaz] was prime minister, he tried to bribe the general with a BMW in Murree’s Governor House,” he continued, “which was rejected”.

“Why did he do that?” lambasted Imran, claiming that Nawaz wanted to "escape accountability" and that is why he wanted to appoint an army chief of his liking and attempted to bribe him.
"He [Nawaz] has no idea how to play with a neutral empire," said Imran.

Imran also predicted that Nawaz will ask the army chief to “first of all try to get rid of me, because he [Nawaz] cannot compete with me”, and then “he will try to finish all corruption cases against him. And finally, he will never hold elections until he knows for sure he will win.”

Turning his attention towards the "threatening environment" that he claimed was being created to "scare people away", Imran revealed that a private media house owner "has also now been threatened for his life much like Arshad Sharif".

"Things were not this bad even when the country was under martial law under Pervez Musharraf," he exclaimed.

The PTI chief also questioned during his address that "if the largest political party cannot get justice in Pakistan, then who can?" as he pointed towards the difficulty he and his party faced in registering an FIR over the gun attack on him.

Imran said "prosperity is necessarily dependent upon justice" as he asserted that "hard-working" Pakistanis were leaving the country to seek economic security because the "system is not just".

"Whenever I ask overseas Pakistanis why they do not do business in Pakistan they tell me that they do not have faith in the system," he added.

Long march 'referendum against imported setup'

Earlier PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that "the massive public participation in the long march is a referendum against the imported setup, and in favor of true independence" as the party continued its march towards the capital.

Raising alarm over the country's dwindling economy, the PTI leader claimed that "the country's economy is on the brink of collapse".

On the other hand, he maintained that "just eight months ago, under the leadership of Imran Khan, all decimals were positive and the country was on the path of progress".

Meanwhile, PTI secretary general Asad Umar while addressing a public rally in Balkasar said that the country was "truly at a crossroads".

He maintained that Pakistan faced a choice between the "75-year-old path of oppression" and "the path of dignity and freedom".

Marchers to camp in Rawat till Imran’s call​

RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi administration has geared up security preparations to welcome the long march of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) which is likely to enter the city on Saturday following the call of party chairman Imran Khan, who has been recuperating in Lahore after a gun attack in Wazirabad left him injured earlier this month.

The marchers will remain camped at Rawat’s T-Chowk until Mr Khan announces his plan whether the march will enter Pindi via G.T. Road or take the Expressway to enter the federal capital – its original destination.

In Pindi, the preparations to provide shelter and food to the marchers are in full swing and the local administration has installed 80 temporary toilets in the Allama Iqbal Park in Shamsabad while in Taxila, at least 200 bathrooms have been set up for the marchers.

Rawalpindi Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Chairman Asif Mehmood told Dawn that the participants will enter the garrison city after the announcement of the PTI chairman. He said that the participants will stay in Rewat on Saturday. However, after the call of the party chairman, they will reach Shamsabad or Faizabad via Murree Road; or, they will use the Islamabad Expressway to enter Islamabad.

The horticulture chairman said that the preparation had been finalised by the PHA and other departments for participants. He said that the party leaders had made arrangements for the food and other facilities of the marchers.

5,000 police for security

Meanwhile, in order to finalise security for the march, the PTI leadership held meetings with the Pindi administration wherein the city managers briefed the party leaders on “foolproof security measures” taken by the administration.
In the same vein, at least 5,000 police officials will protect the long march and the leader of the march, Imran Khan, will be provided with a ‘box security cover’ if he joined the protest in the garrison city.

At least 15 sections (each consisting of five fully armed commandos, one vehicle, and a driver), of elite force and 122 commandos will also be deployed while more than 1,500 personnel, consisting of 75 reserves of police, will be on standby to deal with any emergency situation In the case of Imran Khan’s participation in the march, he will be provided with “a box security cover in the style of the security of former prime ministers”.

However, the sources said that the situation will be cleared after the guidelines of Imran Khan, expected on Saturday.

Rawalpindi CPO Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari will be supervising the security and SSP Operations Wasim Riaz Khan will be in charge of operational matters. Eight SSPs and SPs, 19 ASPs and DSPs, 253 upper subordinates, 981 lower subordinates, 66 women police personnel, 15 sections of the elite force, including 122 lower subordinates (commandos), 565 officials of the City Traffic Police will be performing active and standby duties during the march.
The Special Branch will also be tasked with sweeping the main route of the convoy while monitoring the rally through videos. Arrangements have also been made for monitoring with closed-circuit cameras in urban areas.

Expert snipers will also be deployed to strengthen security.

Former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan has asked his supporters and party leaders to converge on Rawalpindi on November 26 to demand free and fair elections in the country.

“I am inviting the entire nation to reach Rawalpindi on November 26 (next Saturday).
I will meet you there and announce future course of action. This movement is not going to stop even after this march,” he said while addressing supporters via video link in Rawat on Saturday.

“We can never achieve real freedom while sitting at home and living like sheep,” he said as he urged supporters to come out of their homes to force the government to call snap polls.

Imran also addressed the powerful quarters, saying, “Ask anyone you want be it business community, farmers, IT sector or anyone else… everyone believes that free and fair elections is the only way forward to steer the country out of this quagmire”.

The former premier said incumbent government did not have any plan or road map to lift the country out of crises.

“The entire nation will come there [Rawalpindi] and we will demand free and fair elections… this movement will not stop until we achieve real freedom.”

‘Establishment imposed thieves on country’

Imran criticised establishment, saying that he was surprised by the establishment’s decision to impose “corrupt” Sharif and Zardari families on the country.

“Establishment has the power and can take country towards any direction — positive or negative.

“What Pakistan has achieved by regime change in the last seven months,” he asked he establishment. “Why did you impose them on the country… Don’t you know their past? Our agencies have files of their corruption.”

The former premier said “foreign conspiracy” against his government could have never succeeded without the help of ‘local abettors’.

‘No one can remain neutral’

The former premier said no one can remain “neutral” at this time, saying that what is happening today in the country is tantamount to slavery.

“There is a difference between sheep and humans. Humans have rights but society without rule of law turns into a society of animals.”

Giving examples of PTI Senator Azam Swati and Arshad Sharif murder case, Imran said no one would get justice until the nation made efforts for rule of law in the country.

“If I as a former prime minister of the country cannot lodge FIR so how could a common man get justice in this society,” he added.

“No one will come for the rescue of underprivileged in societies where there is no rule of law… if they can kill Arshad Sharif who was number one investigative journalist of Pakistan then no one is safe here,” he added.

Imran said the Punjab police refused to lodge FIR of assassination attempt on him due to the fear of ‘Dirty Harry’.

“All developing countries are facing the same problems as Pakistan because people like Nawaz, Zardari and ‘Dirty Harry’ are sitting there who are above the law.”

He accused the coalition government led by PML-N of “destroying” the country’s economy, saying “their only aim is to take relief in corruption cases”.

“Thieves have closed down corruption cases worth Rs11,000 billion by amending NAB laws… It’s been seven months since my ouster but on one can tell a single good thing that they have done for the country.”

Earlier, senior party leader and former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, addressing participants at Rawat, said the party had shown utmost restraint after its chief "was riddled with bullets" and its supporters were injured and killed in the assassination bid in Wazirabad.

Earlier in the day, PTI's Fawad Chaudhry said that the "final stage" of the party’s ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’ march has arrived, urging people to “get ready” for the PTI chief Imran Khan’s call.

The former information minister announced the long march’s plan and added that today the cavalcades under the leadership of Vice President PTI Shah Mehmood Qureshi and senior leader Asad Umar will meet in the province’s Rawat area.

He furthered that the former prime minister will give a call later today to the people to reach Rawalpindi.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory's (ICT) administration on Saturday granted permission to a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to conduct its rally from Koral to Rawat areas.

The 35-point no-objection certificate (NOC) issued by the capital’s administration was signed by the district magistrate of Islamabad and PTI Islamabad President Ali Nawaz Awan.

It maintained that Section 144 of the Constitution would continue to be enforced in the Red Zone and other areas. The PTI rally was also barred from blocking any roads or causing damage to public or private property.

“This gathering shall not disturb or disrupt the fundamental rights of [the] citizens of Islamabad and adjoining areas”, including the right to freedom of movement, business and trade, and education. Therefore “no roads shall be blocked”, particularly the Islamabad Express Highway and GT Road.

Slogans and speeches against the state, religion, and ideology of Pakistan were prohibited, the administration maintained in the NOC.

It further stated that “no object of lethal or non-lethal force including batons” could be wielded by the participants, and the participants could not indulge in violence.
The PTI would be held responsible for any violence or clashes.

The PTI was also made responsible to conduct a security check on each individual before allowing them to join the rally.

“In case of any violation of the above-signed terms and conditions, the undersigned (Ali Nawaz Awan) shall be liable to face legal proceedings and NOC shall automatically stand cancelled”.

The rally is set to join the larger PTI Haqeeqi Azadi procession, with party chief Imran Khan soon to announce the plan to march to Rawalpindi.

Financial guarantee should be taken

The Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad police Dr Akbar Nasir Khan submitted a report before the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday, suggesting that a financial guarantee should be taken from the PTI in case of any loss. He maintained that the party had violated its assurances on May 25.

The inflammatory remarks of PTI’s Ali Amin Gandapur and other party leaders after May 25, were also part of the report.

The report also included threat alerts regarding the danger to PTI chief Imran Khan’s life.

The report, submitted in court, furthered that a PTI leader had also threatened the interior minister’s, and that there were videos of workers being beaten.

“Sheikh Rasheed and Faisal Vawda have said that it will be a bloody march and Chairman PTI Imran Khan himself has admitted that some of his people are armed,” the report added.

According to the report, the Supreme Court had stated that the right to assemble was a democratic right and that the apex court had also declared that the rally cannot be held to abolish the Constitutional government.

It stated that protests also stops the diplomatic movement in the federal capital. Therefore, the IG requested that federal agencies be given authority over the routes leading to the airport.

The report further stated that if the PTI gave the required guarantee, there would be no need to keep containers around the capital.

The IG maintained that the ICT police were ready to provide security to the PTI rally if it conducted its march in accordance with the required conditions.

PTI to stage sit-in at Faizabad on Nov 26​

PTI seeks permission for helicopter landing at Parade Ground

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) sought permission from the Islamabad administration on Monday to allow it to proceed from different routes of Islamabad to reach Faizabad in Rawalpindi.

The party has also sought permission for a helicopter landing and take off at Parade Ground for PTI supremo Imran Khan till the gathering or sit-in concludes.

PTI President for Islamabad, Ali Nawaz Awan, moved the application before the district administration on Monday morning and sought permission for PTI’s public gathering at Faizabad on November 26.

The PTI leader has also sought the capital administration’s approval for the landing and taking off of a helicopter, which would carry PTI chief Imran Khan from Lahore to Islamabad, at Parade Ground.

Although the application does not clearly state whether it will be a one-day gathering or a sit-in, the intention is clear that the November 26 rally can be converted into a sit-in. PTI has kept the option open in line with its strategy to keep its cards close to its chest and not give the government too much reaction time.

Recently, PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Shireen Mazari revealed that PTI would definitely move towards Islamabad. “Islamabad is our final destination but wait till Imran Khan's announcement on the 26th,” Mazari told The Express Tribune.

Keeping the May 25 rally earlier this year and its abrupt ending in view, PTI is carefully moving ahead this time around rather than making tall claims like it did previously. On the other hand, the government has said that it is fully prepared to deal with the PTI rally or sit-in and that there is no pressure on it.

PTI concluded the second phase of its long march on November 19 and Imran announced a rally in Rawalpindi on the following Saturday. The timing of the rally is interesting as the government is expected to announce the name of the new military chief this week and the ceremony for the change of command is to take place on November 29 at Rawalpindi.

In the application, Awan wrote that “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has announced a peaceful public gathering/sit-in at Faizabad (Rawalpindi) on Saturday, 26th of November, 2022 for which the rallies/convoys from Islamabad and across Pakistan shall be convened to participate in Haqeeqi Azadi March at Faizabad (Rawalpindi)”.

Awan recalled that PTI Islamabad carried out a political rally on November 18 from Koral Chowk, Islamabad, to Chak Beli Morr Rawat, Rawalpindi, to participate in PTI's Haqeeqi Azadi March after seeking permission from the capital’s district administration, adding that the party followed the given terms and conditions and showed discipline in accordance with the law.

Moreover, Awan informed the administration that “Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Mr Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi's helicopter shall land in Parade Ground to join the rally and proceed for Rawalpindi”.

“Therefore,” he stated, “I request your kind honour to grant permission to cross/proceed from different routes of Islamabad to reach Faizabad (Rawalpindi) along with permission required for the placement of helicopter landing and taking off at Parade Ground, till the public gathering/sit-in concluded in the supreme and paramount interest of justice, fair play, equity and good conscience.”

The ICT’s office of the deputy commissioner has received the application and no decision has so far been taken on it.
