PTI govt decides to outsource all major airports of Pakistan

Excellent decision.... Airports are gateways to the country and currently Pakistani airports with the exception of Islamabad present a picture of neglect and corruption. Looking forward to private management of the airport but the government should also keep checks and balances
Do you think those are the only things happening at airports? Come on you can do better
how about the handling of planes like landing, parking, taking off? how about luggage handling, how about fueling ops, how about passenger handling, how about various services provided to planes?

Maybe google what happens at a typical airport, how do they generate revenue?

This Is What Happened When India Privatized It's Airports.I Want This In Pakistan

Nice. What episode of Ertugul you on?

Typing in bold letters won't make you coherent

and this current scheme without accountability of those before only adds to the misery.

yes

Current scheme didnt even get 3 years. Couple their struggle of dealing with massive debt ridden economy with Covid 19 Pandemic. I doubt any other party would have given such huge financial package durring current circumstances. Their deeds are open to criticism and if there is any corruption then take it to courts. As for system where do you want to start ? Judiciary which cant even prosecute one criminal? Bureaucracy which stops working if you start investigating their deeds? Politicians who have blind following of millions and probably kill their own family members to make a martyr? Sugar mills Mafia? Flour mills Mafia? IPP Mafia? Banking mafia? Just think of something on random in your head and tell me there is no corruption in that section inside Pakistan. You want dirt and filth of decades to vanish into thin air within few years that just not how it works. When it took decades to corrupt this system then it will take at least that much time to fix it. There are no shortcuts and immediate fixes so buckle up or give up.

Despite Prime Minister Imran Khan’s tall claims to eradicate corruption in the country, Pakistan has slipped three more places on the Corruption Perception Index (CPI)-2019.

It means that the corruption is more rampant in Pakistan compared to 2018. It is even worse than 2016 and 2017 when according to Prime Minister Imran ‘the corrupt mafia’ was ruling the country.

To have any chance of ending corruption and improving peoples’ lives, we must tackle the relationship between politics and big money.

Good Governance flourish in a necessarily corruption free situation. Pakistan is unfortunately way down on the ladder on this account. Corruption of all magnitudes mega, moderate and petty permeates all tiers of governance and all segments of the society public, private, political, judicial, commercial and even religions. Paradoxically corruption acts as the balancing market mechanism here in a vastly unregulated administrative paradigm. There exists surreal economic rationale for this give and take at the individual level but economic cost to the society is stupendous. Corruption severely impacts the life of the citizens through less returns on resource use and adds manifold to their cost of living. Genesis of corruption . Serious attempts at accountability originating in mid 1990s and fortified on the turn of the century farcically turned into tools of political patronage or victimization. For the last two years there is a practically a legal vacuum at the national level. A host of measures are needed to eradicate this menace. The awareness in the general public and emergence of a strong civil society, vociferous media and a newly independent judiciary all by themselves stand as a guarantee to the success of any future programme of accountability.

Prime Minister Office (PMO) has directed his cabinet members to defend the corruption-accused federal ministers and advisors, including Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Petroleum Nadeem Babar, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Khusro Bakhtiyar, and PM’s aide on textile industry and commerce Abdul Razak Dawood.

PM’s aide Nadeem Babar’s Orient Company is said to have made an additional $1.7 billion from the power consumers

PTI/imran khan will end corruption?

Key word "perception". Transparency International do not have resources to measure corruption in each country.

https://www.transparency.org/en/cpi

Look at link. Corruption table should not be seen as fact. Most corruption is hidden. The corrupt do declare their ill gotten gains to TI.

Dude CPI 2019 report is of 2017-2018 period meaning time of our great ganju shreif. This fact has been established here on old pdf thread when report was published. This years reports will be based on 2018-19 performance of PTI so wait and see the results.

https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/repo...corruption-transparency-international.651286/

As for repatriating money from over seas it is a tough and difficult exercise mainly bcz most countries will just deny your request outright. You need to have comprehensive treaty in place to launch money laundering investigation in other countries. Some countries like Panama, switzerland and british virgin Island will implode if they gave access to all the money that was laundered. The retrieval process itself requires millions of dollars in fees for foreign lawyers and investigation firms.

As for IPPs they were established in 90,s and musharaf era. Needless to say if IK hadnt launched all these inquiries into IPP you wouldnt even have known all the info that you are posting here. You have a mafia sitting in every industry in Pakistan so one needs to tread carefully or face serious economic repercussions due to long reach and political backing of these hyenas. IK allowed these reports to be published despite knowing that people who benefited are sitting in his cabinet. Now it has already been announced that investigations will continue so give it time bcz it is not an easy task to probe these IPP bcz they previous govt legitimized their actions. Just as you waited 20 years to hear a report of IPP same way at least allow 3-4 months time at least to see what comes out of it.

When you look through lens of hatred you will not see any objectivity. You expect all the corruption of decades to wash away in few years that is just not how it works. Countries that steered away from corruption took a long time to rid it of themselves. Take both examples of Turkey and Malaysia who took entire decade to get the economy back on track.

There is no magic wand or jadoo ki phaki that will give you clean and green Pakistan in a few years.

KARACHI, May 22 The customs authorities detected evasion of duty and taxes to the tune of Rs783 million committed by four duty free shops operating in major cities of the country.

The directorate general of Post-clearance Audit on conducting audit of duty free shops found out that flagrant violations of rules were made by them causing colossal loss to the national exchequer.

The two duty free shops located in the city caused a revenue loss of around Rs680 million and that of Lahore and Sambrial Rs103 million to the national kitty.

The post-clearance audit of the shops revealed that bulk of the duty free goods imported by these entities were sold in the open market causing loss of revenue.

In most cases these duty free outlets have been found to be operating as agents for market traders importing high duty consumer goods such as cigarettes, bicycles, soft drinks, and diapers etc for sale in the open market.

The audit of duty free outlets at Lahore and Sambrial found them involved in irregularities at the preliminary stage of audit, and in-depth probe was made to look into the issue, whereby two comprehensive audit reports have been compiled showing evasion to the extent of Rs88.571 million made by Lahore duty free shop and Rs14.362 million by the Sambrial outlet.

Some of the major irregularities committed by these two shops through evasion and misuse of duty-free facility at massive a scale, included fake invoices, suppression of sales value, removal of goods in commercial quantities, sales of goods in open market, manipulation of financial and tax record, non-deposit of foreign exchange, and sales beyond admissible allowances.

However, the two duty free shops located at Karachi — EDF Ltd and DFSL-- surpassed all records of corruption in evasion of duty and taxes causing a revenue loss of Rs380 million, says an official post-audit report.

The report disclosed that EDF (Pvt) Ltd, in blatant violation of warehousing procedure, directly sold 90 consignments consisting of 102 containers of consumer goods in the open market without bringing the said consignments to their warehouse, causing a loss of Rs380 million in revenue.

The report further disclosed that fake and forged passports were used by both the duty free shops at Karachi for selling goods to market traders instead to the bona fide passengers from their city outlets as confirmed by immigration authorities causing an estimated loss of revenue to the tune of Rs300 million.

In the light of these irregularities the PCA has suggested to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to entirely review the duty free shops regime so that such leakages and loopholes are plugged. It has been also recommended to limit the operations of duty free shops within the premises of the airport lounges.

ISLAMABAD - The federal government has decided to outsource all major airports of Pakistan while a final approval is yet to be given by the cabinet, local media reported.

A summary, according to express news, would be presented in the cabinet meeting to be held on Tuesday for approval. The cabinet will take up six-point agenda including outsourcing the all major airports.

The meeting would also give approval for the appointment of chairman of the Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), besides considering summaries regarding federal consolidation fund and public accounts’ custody and operations.

A summary related to water distribution and measurement through tele matric monitoring will also be come under discussion during the meeting, which will also discussed other important matters.
Crappy journalism. Everything at these airports already outsourced. CAA doesn't do anything itself and subcontracts everything out, of course lots of kickbacks involved. Used to work for a international aviation services company and the company routinely lost out on alot of contracts because it had a no kickback policy.
Security handled by ASF and immigration by FIA and customs which can't be outsourced.
Did hear there are plans to shake up CAA to make it more friendly for airlines. Perhaps Federal government taking power from CAA for more oversight in these type of contracts.
And for the trolls wished same concern was shown when Mr Ishaq Dar put all our major airports, PTV, Radio Pakistan and motorways up for collateral when issuing Sukuk bonds. Someone has to pay them back, while IMF and ADB can reschedule based on circumstances these can't be.

Guessed correct.
Did this no kickback policy start, AFTER this?

Three presidential references were prepared by the Ehtasab Bureau of the Nawaz Sharif government under the Ehtasab Ordinance of 1997. Two of them charged Ms Bhutto and her husband with receiving kickbacks from Switzerland-based firms Cotecna and the SGS, who had been awarded contract for pre-shipment assessment of customs duty on exportable merchandise.
