A interesting case of unintended consequence can be seen to have played out and the irony of it is not lost. Nawaz Sharif ever since 1980s had a penchant for building motorways and expressways. The result is 40 years later most of Pakistan now has web of motorways/expressways with Islamabad being a major hub. There is almost a spoke of motorways fanning out from Islamabad to South KPK, Central KPK, North KPK, South Punjab, Central Punjan and of course Azad Kashmir/Gilgit Baltistan.
This meant that come Azaadi March all these regions which once were remote are now literally only 2/3 hours drive from Islamabad and this includes tribal areas. Thus PTI was able tro mobilise entire 'lashkars' almost in replay of Kashmir 1947. Thus Nawaz in a way helped Imran Khan to mobilise his supporters in pincer move on Islamabad.
As a history buff I could not help but watch in delight how the Azaadi March moved east along the M1 motorway with IK stood atop the truck with miles long convoy behind him in a replay of what has happened over milenia in history. From Scythians, to Alexanders Greeks, to Moghuls etc this is the exact route they came.
Adjacent to Attock there is a cutting that the motorway goes through, few miles east of Indus River bridge. This had been blocked off with Punjab police taking up the high ground on both sides. But the modern Ghaznavids launched a pre-emptive attack on both high points and captured the 'pass' thus securing the motorway pass for the cavalcade to pass through.
This was the point when Sanaullah must have shat in his pants and called Bajwa 'Islamabad has fallen' please help. While all this was going on another convoy led by Gandapur with tribals was heading up north along the recently opened M14 from Mianwali. This meant even if the bridge over Jhelum could be held Islamabad had been breached from west and south west.
