Diplomatic courtesies extended to visiting foreign leaders were missing on Pakistan Premier Yousuf Raza Gilani's arrival in the US earlier this week for an official visit.

On arrival at the Andrews Air Force Base in Washington on Sunday afternoon, Gilani had to walk from his aircraft to a welcome shed, a distance covered in two to three minutes.

While walking this distance, Gilani and his wife 'were seen quite perturbed as neither there was an ordinary carpet nor the customary red carpet, as is usual on official visits', The News daily reported.

At the gate of the shed, Gilani was received 'by none higher than Assistant Secretary (of State) Richard Boucher', the report said.

All ministers and others accompanying Gilani on his first visit to the US after becoming the prime minister were told to remain in the aircraft. This prompted Information Minister Sherry Rehman to mildly protest at the treatment they were getting.

A junior US official who came to the aircraft to escort Gilani reportedly told Rehman that there was a threat of a thunderstorm and so the others would be safer inside the plane.

What baffled members of Gilani's delegation was that the prime minister was not provided a car to drive up to the welcome shed despite the threat of a thunderstorm.

Journalists and some other members of Gilani's delegation had to wait over eight hours at the airport to be cleared by the US Immigration. Only one immigration officer was posted with a laptop and he took a long time to clear each member of the delegation.

thats really bad treatment should not have been done.

I suppose the presidential treatment is valid for mushy only. US has to take Pak a bit more seriously. this behavior will only increase the animosity.

A slap on Pakistan's face and a reminder that you are nothing.

This may very well be a case of crappy journalism. Is Mr. Gilani upset about the so called shabby treatment that he received? If not, then this whole endeavor is nothing more than hackneyed tabloid journalism, a phenomenon rather common in this particular source.

Then again, all of this could be real, in which case its an issue the US government needs to take up, however until I see more sources correlating this story, I see really no need to jump to conclusions.

Sounds like propoganda from a burning enemy.

how can this also be termed as propoganda?

The US needs to be shown its place by both India and Pakistan. clearly, it sides with one party and misbehaves with other and this keeps shifting depending on the issue. And instead of realising it and giving them a fitting reply, we should not blame each other for this.

This forum is a pretty good place to have such a conducive environment. In due course of time, I intend to introduce the mebers of my community here. (we are a group of students from Pak, Bangaldesh, India & Nepal who discuss political and cultural issues. our musical band consists of people from all these coutries and people are really amazed at our closeness)

I sincerely hope that we do not have mistrust in the future.

thanks.

I evaluated the gains of such event, I see no gains from the US to do so, it would seem it was written for an ill attempt to show the burning feelings, why would the US treat a foreign dignitary in such it would gain little, the US is not runned by perverted favors and ill treatment, if one is to ill treat Pakistan than the best way is not to invite the PM Gillani, the PM of Pakistan was invited by the US Government, our country doesn't beg audience, it is a country that was made from the force words, why would I take such an illiterate article seriously, it proves nothing but an ill attempt that has failed to reach its audience only an idiot will take note of it.

Ehh so what man if they dint gave him red carpet welcome. Next US officials should be recieved in the similar manner in Pakistan simple as that.

Whats the big deal.

And what would you achieve by doing that...power, respect or dignity all come from within. How much do you yourself respect your PM ? one only has to read some of the posts on this forum. Ridiculing him yourself and then expecting Respect from US is futile.

" Respect yourself and you shall be respected"

In any case, i think Mr. mushraf is the Head Of The State, not the PM.

so what if galini was treated like this, any way he is just a puppet the real PM is sitting in Pakistan or Dubai or maybe London?

US denied Pak PM the red carpet

After Gilani's flop visit, US decides not to take the PM seriously

no it is friendly propaganda, look it is non other than indian media the best friend of ANP and PPP plus many parties of ruling coalition.
Even the family of some of political leaders live in india.

For most of your career you have been calling others Indian, to day I shall call you one of them.
You blatantly advertised Indian propaganda just because it would mud sling someone, congrats you are the weakest link.

All of those links lead to a common enemy I didn't even check the sources of the original article, though I thought Haider would know what propaganda is, in this case he cared less about it.
