Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday left for London where Sharif's wife Kulsoom Nawaz is undergoing treatment for lymphoma.

The father-daughter duo, who are currently facing accountability hearings, left for London on a Qatar Airlines flight around 9:30am and are scheduled to return on April 22.

However, in a tweet just before departure, Maryam vowed to return before the next hearing if they are not granted an exemption from appearance by the accountability court where proceedings for Avenfield Properties reference is underway.

"My mother is hospitalised again," she had tweeted a day earlier, with a request for prayers for her mother. The family had also issued a statement informing that the two would leave for London to see the ailing Kulsoom.

Begum Kulsoom had undergone a surgery for lymphoma (throat cancer). The PML-N had declared the procedure successful, but of late her condition deteriorated and she was hospitalised.

Last week, the PML-N government had shown reluctance to place the names of Nawaz Sharif and other members of his family on the Exit Control List (ECL) on the request of the National Accountability Bureau.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had asked the interior ministry to put on the ECL the names of Nawaz Sharif, his children — Maryam, Hassan and Hussain — and his son-in-law retired Capt Safdar.

All of them are being tried in accountability courts regarding references filed following the Supreme Court's orders in Panamagate case.

Sharif's sons are already in London and have been declared proclaimed offenders by the accountability court in the corruption references against them.

1971 was successful not because of India or Shiekh Mujib but because the people of East Pakistan wanted to separate. Same situation here if people of Punjab want to separate then nobody can stop it, but I have a feeling if Nawaz gives such a call it will be the Punjabis themselves who will give him shut up call and go up in arms against him.

The Pakistani deep state needs to wake the hell up and take precautions against any other "shareef family" from gaining such a grip on the governmental affairs of the state.


This is what I propose:

Hang these traitors (and those who benefitted from their loot).

Divide all of the provinces into smaller provinces, preferably not named after any ethnicity.

Infiltrate all of the political and 'religious' parties and drive from the back seat.

Eliminate any and all ethnicity based 'political' parties at once.

Reform the police and the judicial system.

Clean up the mess at home.

Be a bit more belligerent in dealing with foreign hostile forces.

Did it ever occur to you that corruption may be a prerequisite for advancement in politics and government in Pakistan? It's not like Pakistan has a history of "people power" opposing autocracy. Since under such circumstances one has to wield power before one can make reforms might it not be better to disregard alleged hypocrisies and pay attention to policies instead?

At the very least to wield the "Hang 'em!" label with more discretion? A truth-and-reconciliation commission might bring better results.

Not many nation have a history of people power opposing autocracy.

Reconciliation is good when it is done with and for the weak and the oppressed. Doing it with the strong and the oppressors is just making them stronger.

Would you want Bibi running the Israeli state like a mafia, where judges are killed or fired at and threatened if they rule against the powerful.

I want the justice to be not only truly blind, but angry and wielding big swords in both hands driven by vengeance.
