A slim new Xbox was just the beginning. As rumored, Microsoft also has a far more powerful version of its Xbox One game console coming in 2017, with support for virtual reality. It's called Project Scorpio.

According to Microsoft, it will have the most powerful GPU ever put into a game console, with 6 teraflops of raw performance -- enough, Microsoft says, to render games at true 4K resolution at a smooth 60 hertz. That's in contrast with the just-announced Xbox One S, which supports 4K video playback but probably won't play games at that resolution.

"We can render fully uncompressed pixels," says an Xbox developer. The new console will play all existing Xbox One games and work with all Xbox One accessories, according to the company.

Like the original Xbox One, the upcoming Scorpio will also feature an 8-core CPU. While Microsoft didn't confirm which VR headsets will work with the new Xbox -- a partnership with Oculus was rumored ahead of the event -- the company did namedrop the upcoming VR version of Fallout 4 as a game that would specifically be coming to Scorpio. That game was announced for the HTC Vive.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer previously said that Microsoft doesn't plan to produce its own Xbox VR headset.

Those are all the details we have on Project Scorpio at this time, but we'll be on the lookout for more. Since so many of the rumored details about Scorpio appear to have come true, you might consider reading our huge pre-E3 Xbox rumor roundup.

:angel:Waiting for Sony now but don't know why they aren't announcing NEO officially at E3 :disagree:

.
so is this Polaris or Vega based GPU??

top Polaris card coming out this year has 5 Tflop/s of compute power compared to the 6 mentioned in the article.

as for 4K I really don't care about 4K gaming especially for a console, all that matters to me would be 1080p 60FPS at the highest quality settings which this new system should be able to do

I agree most of the people don't even own a 4k TV 1080p @ stable 60fps Med-High settings is all you need...

I would bet these new consoles will be Vega based coming out for Christmas 2017

There always a war between gaming consoles and PCs. 4K is necessary for future proofing in gaming consoles since its life cycle is longer as compared to PC graphics which get update more regularly. As nVidia Pascal based GTX 1080 can run any with high to ultra high settings in 4k and still get great frame rate.

On a serious note, I am not exited for any console. May be because I am a PC gamer.
I know in Pak it is sometimes hard to get what you want and even if you get the required part it will be overpriced, but I will still say that IF you CAN afford, PC is the clear winner. As it is very customizeable and you can get exactly what you need. Plus more game choices :yahoo:

Yeah that's a good question but excuse my ignorance as I don't know the price of the gaming console though I was given a PS4 as a birthday gift and I never bought one. I have ordered two MSI GTX 1080 Sea Hawks for SLI and really I couldn't order more so no more quad SLI but the good thing is that I can use my old system based on X99 with Intel X5960 but at the same time I don't want to scrap my dual GTX 980ti's Asus Strix addition so I'm non-plussed whether to build a new machine altogether on Z170 or gift them to my cousin so he can play minesweeper at higher frame rates :)
