Featured Project Azm: Pakistan's Ambitious Quest to Develop 5th Generation Military Technologies.

I'm sure this is just one of the reference designs that was investigated early on (very clearly the YF-23). There must be many many more such low-fi investigations. I doubt this Azm's FGFA or a finalized design. Just a little tease to keep us fanboys excited lol.

On the other hand the MALE seems to have a pretty detailed design in the video:

which is not surprising considering the things we know about it.

The design of Azm we are looking at, might be from phase 1. A lot has been progressed.

Performance Estimates:
The maximum flight performance characteristics are classified and only of academic interest since the aircraft was not tested to its maximum limits, only those sufficient to demonstrate USAF requirements within the Dem/Val structure. The actual flight parameters required to be demonstrated where much lower than what the aircraft was theoretically capable of. Performance figures have never been publically released so all figures in the public domain are estimates.

The only way I see this ambitious project to succeed would be if we invest heavily into avionics/electronics/sensors and data management. And also start training pilots to process a universe of information they will get through all sensors, avionics and optimally utilize the necessary data while discarding the rest, which I believe will be a hell of a task. My own prediction is that, if the aircraft is to enter production after 2030, we might go to make it a 5.5 Gen jet keeping in mind it will support guided laser weapons.


It looks very similar but final design will look different. We are in the 2nd stage of design phase. Once the design is finalized then we will work toward building the infrastructure to prepare for prototype phase.
We have a total of 4 design cycles in designing phase only and stage 1 only got completed in 2018/2019. TBH, objectively, I am pessimistic of prospects of this project completing. To me, its outcome might be similar to Indian Tejas but only 25 times worse.

@Bilal Khan (Quwa) Supposedly this YF-23 like design has been a thing for a while though. Take a read through that link. I cant remember the original thread where i saw this but the person has been credited. It seems to be reasonably credible however, these tweets were from 2019.

THREAD on Project Azm and JF-17 Block 3.Today I visited Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Kamra and received multiple briefings from the engineers and command working there.Project Azm is Pakistan Air Force’s Project to make a viable and cost-effective but totally indigenous fifth generation fighter aircraft, a Medium-altitude long endurance (MALE) UAV and an advanced SAM missile system.The Project Azm NGFA has already been assigned a huge building in AvRiD, Kamra and work on it is in the early design phases.PAF is exploring VTOL capabilities on the NGFA as well.As from the models I’ve seen currently 3 designs are being studied, one of which is a flying wing design, which is unlikely to be selected according to the engineers. The other two look very much like the YF-23 Black Widow. One is being studied with dorsal air intakes.The design philosophy is of a twin engine delta wing design double vertical and horizontal stabiliser that most resembles a YF-23, pictured below. These pictures are the most accurate representation of what I saw of the models. Most likely a delta wing YF-23 design will be chosen.The Project Azm MALE UAV prototypes have been built and flown and will enter production next year, InshAllahThe SAM system’s progress is classified but well underway.Project Azm NGFA is projected to enter prototype build phase in 2023 and become fully combat operational not later than 2028. Probably will enter production in 2026.As for JF-17 Block 3, most salient features will be:AESA Radar, more hardpoints, BVR missile support (most important), and superior avionics. Prototypes of block 3 are being tested. They will be flight tested late this year or early 2020. And production will start in 2020.Block 4,5 will also be developed and made in the 2023-2030 timeframe in which major airframe and engine changes will be made. Stealth will also be added with technology transferred from Project Azm.I also witnessed the first two dual seater JF-17 B in final assembly. They were the first two serial production JF-17Bs. It was posted in Aug. 22, 2019, so couple of things turned out to be correct from the posters thread.
1-Block 3 prototype flew in dec 2019.
2- JF17Bs rolled out from Kamra this year.

Research institutes that are working on sensitive technology will not use Mac or WINDOWS 10. If you find a screenshot where these OS are visible, you know they either fake or projects of non-sensitive nature.

The so called "leaked" image is using windows 10.

So, is Pakistan going to acquire two fighter aircraft that are almost identical to USAF's main aircraft?

J-35 = F-35 (stop gap)
Project Azm FGFA = F-22 (long-term)

I mean that's the impression being thrown out there by some if we take out the "indigenous" out of Project Azm and replace it with "copy".

nobody said they WILL acquire these. Its more of a, if they need to, they should get this

We know there is a supersonic cruise missile project for the navy, and the images of the missile may be conceptual design stages of a ramjet powered missile for that project, but the underlying design will probably be used as an A2G weapon for the PAF.

It's highly unlikely the images on the screen of the aircraft will be Azm, for one it looks too crude, and second it's unlikely the PAF would adopt a design which was rejected, regardless of its merits. The PAF likes to play it safe and there won't be any untested or unproven design elements.

We arent seeing a booster on the missile. Either its a very crude model or its an a2g weapon

Their are some departments even in US Military that are using Windows 98 from Air Force side when collaborating with defense industries—even these companies use it as well.
